Welcome Back to Term Three! Welcome back to school. I hope all of our families had a safe break and are now ready to return to our lovely learning environment. I would like to welcome Mrs Maree McMahon, who will be our new Teacher/Librarian and Intensive Reading Teacher, alongside Mrs Howell, for the remainder of this year.

A few things happened while we were away:

1. Three Promethean boards were installed in classrooms, ready for use on the first day back for 5/6B, 5/6C and KT,

2. Stairwells, handball courts and lines/games were

repainted,

3. A purpose built room was created for an on-site uniform shop; soon to be opened at Richmond Public School, and

4. Again, tree lopping and removal occurred within the playground area

Over the term break, I have been informed that Mr Ruzgas’ Relieving Director- Educational Leadership position, will continue for all of Term Three. This is because the substantive Director- Educational Leadership for Windsor, Mrs Bennett, continues to

be unwell and is unable to fulfil her role in supporting Hawkesbury schools. In Mr Ruzgas’ absence, I will remain in the Relieving Principal role with Miss Melissa Deal (Relieving Assistant Principal) and Ms Skye Patch (Opportunity Class teacher of 5M), continuing in their relieving roles. Mr Ruzgas continues to remain in contact with Richmond Public School throughout his time as Relieving Director- Educational Leadership. We continue to send our kind thoughts to Mrs Bennett and to her family during her extended recovery. To the families of Richmond Public School, thank you for continuing to support our dedicated staff during this time. We have many exciting community events, as well as student centred workshops, activities, camps and numerous other educational opportunities planned for your children in Term Three. We look forward to another wonderful term at Richmond Public School.

Education Week Celebrations “Celebrating Grandparents”

Term 3 will see Richmond Public School celebrate Education Week. With the aim of giving our families enough notice to plan work commitments around the event, Richmond Public School will be celebrating Education Week on Monday, 5 August 2019. This will be the day where families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and celebrate with your children our wonderful learning environment. There will be a focus on Literacy in the classroom. I ask that you please keep this date available and that you invite grandparents or special family friends along on the day. The plan for the week includes an open classroom opportunity, a concert, recess with your child/children and a K-2 Sports Day (11:40am – 1:30pm).

Richmond Marketplace Performances In addition to performing at our school concert, the Recorder Ensemble, Ukulele Group, Choir and Dance Group, will be on display at Richmond Marketplace on Wednesday, 7 August 2019. Further information will be going home next week.

At 10:00am, Richmond Public School will be showcasing our very talented students. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to perform in front of an audience; including passing shoppers. Every year when Richmond Public School performs at Richmond Marketplace, I have a number of shoppers come up to Mr Ruzgas and myself congratulating our school on their polished and varied performances and I’m sure this will again occur. I encourage all of our families to come and support the excellent talent we have at Richmond Public School.

Program to improve safety around School zones “Safety First” campaign (Reminder)

Hawkesbury City Council is launching a “Safety First” campaign to improve pedestrian safety in and around school zones. During the first two weeks of Term 3, Council’s Community Enforcement officers will be attending schools to speak with parents and distribute brochures outlining common illegal parking behaviour within school zones and the associated penalties. The Officers will also give warning to parents/drivers who are parking illegally within the school zone (unless there is a blatant safety breach). After the education period, a zero-tolerance approach will be applied. Where the driver of any vehicle is found to be illegally parked around the school will be issued with a penalty notice, which also includes 2 demerit points if within a school zone. Community Enforcement officers will provide extra patrols during the morning school drop-off and the afternoon pickup times to reinforce responsible driver behaviour. Council will further support this important community initiative by developing targeted information and education for our school community. Council’s Community Safety Coordinator will be working with us to develop and implement programs and strategies to address identified road safety issues around Richmond school.

The CONNECT Program will begin on Friday, 26 July. The program begins at 9.10am and will conclude at 11.00am. All 2020 Kindergarten students and parent/caregivers are to meet in the new hall.

RPS Athletics Carnival 2019 On Friday, 28 June, RPS held its Athletics Carnival at Tamplin Field and it was a fun and action-packed day for our students. Girls and boys had opportunities to compete in Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump in the field events section. The track events offered were 100m, 200m and 800m races. Well done to our super students who participated with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Our terrific teachers did a fantastic job running events and worked incredibly hard throughout the day. A huge thank you to our many parent helpers for your assistance in our track and field events. Your contribution certainly helped the day run smoothly. Congratulations to Curtis V who set a new school record in the Discus! Mr Crye & Mr Chia

Students and parents will be able to come and buy books from the library before school from 8:40am to 9:10am and after school from 3:10pm to 3:30pm. On our school’s Education Day (Monday, 5 August), the book fair will also be open during recess and lunch to coincide with our morning performances and K-2 Sport Carnival. Richmond Boys Australian Air League Squadron is enrolling for Term 3 2019

Richmond Boys Squadron of the Australian Air League is now enrolling cadets for Term 3 2019 at its meeting location at Richmond Public School, 115 Windsor St Richmond on Friday evenings from 7:00 until 9:00pm. The Richmond Boys Squadron is also looking for adults who would be interested in volunteering with the Australian Air League to help these young Australians achieve their goals. The Air League is inviting young people, who may be interested, to come down with their parents and learn what the Air League has to offer. The Australian Air League is a nationwide organisation for young people aged from 8 to 18 years. Staffed by volunteers and self-funding, it teaches leadership skills and provides a wide range of interesting and exciting activities such as camping and hiking, sport and physical recreation, building and flying model aircraft and ceremonial drill. Through classes and practical demonstration members learn the theory of aviation and a wide range of associated topics such as Meteorology, Navigation, Aero Engines and Aircraft Construction, as well as general interest subjects such as photography, field craft and community service. The Air League also provides a range of flying experiences for its members, from simple scenic joy flights through to gliding and powered-flying training, from private pilot licence (PPL) through to airline entry standards – all in aircraft owned, operated and professionally maintained by our staff. The Australian Air League is also approved as an Active Kids Provider registered with Service NSW. Active Kids is a program to help NSW families meet the cost of getting their kids into sport and active fitness and recreation activities. Information can be found online at https://sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/activekids

I know a lot of the students are excited to be a part of this event. Don’t forget to start your online account and share it with your friends and family to help you raise money to meet your target. There are class and stage competitions to encourage students to raise money to have their teacher covered in chalk or to win a yummy lunch. We urge you to bring your child’s goggles in ASAP, labelled with their name and class. The Colour Fun Run will take place on Friday 23, August. We will be holding our Father’s Day Stalls on Thursday, 29 and Friday 30 August. Our Father’s Day Breakfast will be from 7am-9am on Friday, 30 August. Rainbow of Food Recipe – Green & Red Chocolate Dipped Apple Slices (www.Kidspot.com)

Apples are high in fibre, Vitamin C and various antioxidants. Due to sophisticated refrigeration storage we are lucky enough to be able enjoy apples all year round. 4 apples of your choice (pink lady work well), 400g milk chocolate melts, sprinkles, crushed nuts, shredded coconut or whatever you would like on your apples. Wash apples and slice into 8 wedges. Insert skewers into the base of each wedge. Melt chocolate in a microwave in short bursts until melted. Dip apple wedge into melted chocolate and then your preferred topping, place on a baking sheet covered tray and place in refrigerator until chocolate has set, then enjoy. Don’t forget to download the Flexischools app and create an account so you can order online and have exclusive access to specials that I will be offering from time to time. We have some items that are available until stocks last that are not listed on the printed menu.
