I was very busy signing all of the certificates; a task I thoroughly enjoy as I track our successful students. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning process is so highly valued by the students that I have many students coming up to me in the playground informing me that they will be attending our Touchdown Morning Tea. In addition, the handing out of bronze and silver awards will occur next week, indicating that the student has not had a Reflection session all term or, in many cases, for two terms. Again, I have students coming up to me to inform me that they will be receiving a bronze or silver award and we celebrate this achievement. All of this could not be possible without the support of our parents and carers who celebrate their child’s achievements and ensure there is a strong link between the school and home. I thank you for this strong support.

Program to improve safety around School zones “Safety First” campaign

Hawkesbury City Council is launching a “Safety First” campaign to improve pedestrian safety in and around school zones. During the first two weeks of Term 3, Council’s Community Enforcement officers will be attending schools to speak with parents and distribute brochures outlining common illegal parking behaviour within school zones and the associated penalties. The Officers will also give warning to parents/drivers who are parking illegally within the school zone (unless there is a blatant safety breach). After the education period, a zero-tolerance approach will be applied. Where the driver of any vehicle is found to be illegally parked around the school will be issued with a penalty notice, which also includes 2 demerit points if within a school zone. Community Enforcement officers will provide extra patrols during the morning school drop-off and the afternoon pickup times to reinforce responsible driver behaviour. Council will further support this important community initiative by developing targeted information and education for our school community. Council’s Community Safety Coordinator will be working with us to develop and implement programs and strategies to address identified road safety issues around Richmond school.

Rotary Public Speaking Challenge

On Monday 17 June, 2019, Kai C from 6D participated in the Rotary Primary Public Speaking Challenge for 2019. He represented our school at a special dinner hosted by the Richmond Rotary Club and presented a speech on the topic, ‘Learning from the Past’. Kai was able to engage his listening audience through the use of humour and personal anecdotes, along with factual information about innovations and scientific developments from our current world. We were very pleased with Kai’s effort on the night and we hope that he continues to pursue public speaking opportunities in the future. Well done, Kai!

CONNECT Program Transition to Kindergarten 2020 (Reminder)

Our CONNECT Kindergarten Transition Program is again being implemented at Richmond Public School. This is a very valuable program as it assists our new kindergraten students adjust to ‘big school’. During the program, the students borrow from the library, become familiar with the school environment, meet the teachers and the Principal and participate in many of the activities that they will be involved in next year. The CONNECT Program will begin in Term 3. The program begins at 9.10am and will conclude at 11.00am. All 2020 Kindergarten students and parent/caregivers are to meet in the new hall. I will advise of the actual starting date when it is available.

P&C News The P&C would like to apologise for the cancellation of this week’s meeting, and thank any parent who had intentions of coming. We hope to see you next term. Thank you to all the families who have and are yet to bring in any Earn and Learn stickers. You can still bring them in if you have any at home as we are yet to send them off. Can’t wait to see what learning resources will come in for the children. Term 3 has some exciting events planned, for example Richmond Public schools first ever colour run a-thon (23rd August) and our Father’s Day stalls and Breakfast (August 29th and 30th). Please keep an eye out for all notes coming home next term. Have a safe 2 week holidays and look forward to seeing everyone in term 3.

Canteen News On the 19th June the canteen passed its yearly Council inspection and has been rated with 5 stars – the highest expected level of compliance with hygiene and food safety standards. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers that assist us with maintaining this high rating. Thank you to all the families who have supported the canteen throughout term 2, we look forward to serving you all once again in term 3. I’d also like to thank Mr Chia and the student helpers who assisted this term. You all did a wonderful job and should be very proud of the way you have conducted yourselves whilst working in the canteen. The Canteen will be open right up to and including the last day of this term, Friday 5th July. The canteen will be open for Term 3 from Wednesday 24th July. From the beginning of Term 3, a new hot dish ‘Bolognaise Baked Potato’ will be added to our menu for $3.60. This delicious dish consists of a baked potato, smothered in a tasty bolognaise sauce and finished off with melted cheese, warming our bellies through the chilly winter months.

Spotlight on…….Pies, Mini Pies & Sausage Rolls!

As the cool of winter continues, it’s the perfect time to stay warm with our range of Pies, Mini Pies and Sausage rolls. As we are now a Healthy School Canteen, we stock the Mrs Mac’s Lighten Up range. This range is a healthier option with reduced fat and sodium, made with 100% Australian beef wrapped in crispy, golden pastry. These foods are an occasional food under the NSW Government Healthy Guidelines.
