both moving away from the area.
This term, we welcome:
• Ms Edwards (English)

We hope they will settle in very quickly.
Croydon Schools Awards 2015
Thank you and a huge
congratulations to all the
students and staff who took
part in the Croydon Schools
Awards ceremony at Fairfield
Halls at the end of last term.
UKMT Maths Team Challenge
Congratulations to Samuel De Gorrequer Griffith 8RJK, Sian
Powell 8RJK, Stella Fisher 8RJK and Isadora Hugo 8JLR for
continuing the outstanding results that Riddlesdown Collegiate
has achieved in this year’s regional mathematics competitions by
finishing in 15th place in the South East regional finals.
The UKMT Team Challenge was
hosted by St Olave’s Grammar
School and 37 other schools from
across the South East region took
part. There were four rounds that
tested students’ speed, teamwork,
logic and even fitness in the 40
minute relay race. What a result,
well done!
Mr King
Forensic Psychology Conference
College VI Psychology students attended a
conference in Central London on the topic
of Forensic Psychology, including talks
from TV-celebrity Professor David Wilson
and distinguished Professor, Elizabeth
Loftus who came from California to speak
at the event.
Students heard gruesome tales of how
serial killers and hit men have been
hunted down by the police, as well as
hearing Loftus describe her famous
research into false memories and
confessions, and how easy it is for
people to believe things have
happened in their past when they are,
in fact, made up!
This week’s seminar is

on Thursday at 8.15am in the
Conference Room

Word: Fatalism
Definition: (adj.) a doctrine that events are fixed in
advance so that human beings are powerless to change
them; also : a belief in or attitude determined by this
doctrine
Etymology:1670s as a philosophical doctrine that all
things are determined by fate, from fatal + -ism.
Meaning "disposition to accept all conditions and
events as inevitable" is from 1734.
Words in Action: Many people seem to have
developed a sense of fatalism about the war.
And Finally….
