ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SIENASiena and Rider are meeting for the 51st time, with the Saints holding a 33-17 lead in the series, including the last two. Siena took a tight 59-57 victory last Feb. 10, before defeating the Broncs, 87-81, in the MAAC Quarterfinals at the Times-Union Center.

STRONG STARTAt 7-2, Rider was off to its best nine-game start to a season since the Broncs went 8-1 to begin the 1997-98 season, current Rider Athletic Director Don Har-num’s first as Head Coach. The only undefeated nine-game starts in program history came in the first and third years of its existence under the legendary Clair Bee in 1928-29 and 1930-31. BRONCS CONNECT FROM FREE THROW LINERider made 37-of-48 free-throw attempts in its Dec. 16 win over Marist. Indi-vidually, Stevie Jordan (14-17) and Tyere Marshall (11-13) both set new highs in free throws attempted and made. The 37 made free throws as a team were the most since Feb. 26, 1999, when the Broncs made 39-of-46 in the MAAC Championship First Round. The 48 attempts are tied for the most since Rider attempted 50 against Siena on Feb. 22, 1998. STEVIE STEALINGStevie Jordan matched his career single-game high with six steals against Marist on Dec. 16. Jordan made all six steals in the first half, including the first five within a span of two minutes and 38 seconds. The six steals matched his total from Dec. 9, 2017, against Hofstra. RUNNING TO WINSRider made a habit of second-half runs in four-straight wins Nov. 23-Dec. 14. It ended its 87-63 win over Columbia on a 25-0 run. The Broncs forced 18-straight missed shots and four Lions turnovers in the game’s final eight minutes. Rider made 10-of-12 attempts in the span and took a 53.1 percent (17-32) to 22.0 percent (9-41) advantage from the floor in the half. Next time out, the Broncs opened the second half on a 22-2 spurt, including a 17-0 stretch. During the run, Rider made 9-of-11 attempts to Vermont’s 1-of-11. For the half, Rider outshot Vermont, 58.3 percent (14-24) to 23.1 percent (9-39). On Dec. 3, the Broncs used a 15-1 early second-half run to put the game away against Bucknell, while a 17-1 run on Dec. 14 put LIU away. CONTROLLING THE GLASSRider outrebounded its opponent in each of its first eight games and 9-of-11 overall this season. The Broncs took a 51-38 edge in the season opener at Coppin State, before dominating Delaware State, 50-29. Rider edged Arizona State, 47-45, before taking a +12 differential at UMass (42-30). The Broncs were also +7 against Columbia with a 41-34 margin, +6 (41-35) against Vermont, +4 against Bucknell (34-30) and +21 against LIU (57-36).

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TRIOWith Tyere Marshall (20 points, 12 rebounds), Frederick Scott (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Dimencio Vaughn (18 points, 13 rebounds) all compil-ing double-doubles on Dec. 14 vs. LIU, Rider had three players with dou-ble-doubles for the first time since Jan. 30, 1996, when Charles Smith (20 points, 11 rebounds), Dmitri Charles (18 points, 14 rebounds) and Deon Hames (12 points, 12 assists) turned the trick. Smith and Hames also con-tributed to three Broncs with double-doubles, along with Greg Burston 10 days prior on Jan. 20, 1996, against Saint Francis (Pa.). The closest the Broncs came to having three players with double-doubles in recent memory came in the 2016-17 season finale, when Stevie Jordan (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Kahlil Thomas (13 points, 10 rebounds) had double-doubles and Xavier Lundy (13 points, nine rebounds) came a board away from joining them.

ON A TYEREThrough 11 games, Tyere Marshall has clearly stepped up his game in his se-nior season. He’s averaged a team-high 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds, while shooting 56.2 percent (59-105) from the floor. Included in the production was career highs in points (28) and rebounds (20) at UMass on Nov. 20. Mar-shall is the first Bronc since Jason Thompson ‘08 to accomplish a 20-20 game. Thompson turned the trick three times in his senior season of 2007-08, after which he was selected 12th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. With his 11-of-17 effort from the floor at UMass, Marshall’s shoot-ing percentage actually went down from 80.0 percent (16-20) to 73.0 percent (27-37) and further dipped with a 10-of-15 effort against Columbia to 71.2 percent (37-52). Marshall went for a double-doubles of 25 points and 16 re-bounds against Columbia, 14 points and 13 rebounds against Bucknell and 20 points and 12 rebounds against LIU, and now has four double-doubles on the year and 14 for his career. Facing double teams all night, Marshall still managed 10 points and seven rebounds in a win over Vermont. For his efforts against UMass, Columbia and Vermont, Marshall was named MAAC Player of the Week on Nov. 25. 23 BECOMES 37; STRONG CHANCE FOR 38, 39 AND 40Stevie Jordan scored his 1,000th career point last Feb. 12 at Quinnipiac. He’s the 37th player in program history to achieve the feat. Tyere Marshall (937), Frederick Scott (929) and Dimencio Vaughn (931) are all on pace to eclipse 1,000 career points as well this season. Only six Division I programs (BYU, Liberty, Illinois-Chicago, North Florida, Richmond, Southern California) currently have three 1,000-point scorers on their teams.

A LEADER IN MANY WAYSStevie Jordan is on pace to become Rider’s all-time leader in assists and steals. He currently ranks third in assists with 525, while Deon Hames ‘96 is the Broncs’ all-time leader with 598. He also has 170 career steals (4th), with Ryan Thompson ‘10 topping the list with 188 takeaways.

PHOND OF PHILLYEight of the 12 players on Rider’s roster are either from Philadelphia or the suburbs of the city.

TYERE TOP TWENTYWith his nine-rebound performance on Dec. 16 vs. Marist, Tyere Marshall pushed his career total to 628, passing William Kinsel for 20th all-time at Rider. He’s since jumped into 16th with 644 career rebounds. Next on the list is Derrick Lamar with 652, while the Broncs’ all-time leader is Jason Thomp-son with 1,171.

2019-20 Rider Men’s BasketballHARRASSING THE HORNETSFive Broncs scored in double figures in an 81-54 win at Delaware State on Nov. 8, led by Frederick Scott with 13 points. Stevie Jordan and Dimencio Vaughn scored 12 points apiece, while Christian Ings scored the first 11 points of his collegiate career and Tyere Marshall contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. No Bronc attempted more than eight shots and all five starters were comfortably on the bench for at least the final 13 minutes of regulation.

SCOTT SALUTEDFrederick Scott was named MAAC Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the Broncs 2-0 week to open the season at Coppin State and Delaware State. The honor was the second of Scott’s career.

20/20/20Frederick Scott, Dimencio Vaughn and Tyere Marshall each scored 20 or more points in the Broncs’ season-opening 91-84 win at Coppin State on Nov. 5, marking the first time since Dec. 8, 2013 that Rider had three players score 20 or more points in the same game (Danny Stewart, Jimmie Taylor, Anthony Myles vs. Quinnipiac). Scott (21 points, 13 rebounds) and Vaughn (21 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles, while Marshall scored 20 points on 9-of-9 from the floor. The double-doubles were the 10th and fifth of Scott and Vaughn’s careers, respectively.

REPEATEDLY HONOREDStevie Jordan and Frederick Scott each earned All-MAAC honors for the second-straight year last year. Jordan repeated on the Second Team, while Scott was named to the Third Team for the second-straight year. Both players moved up a rung on the Preseason All-MAAC Teams, with Jordan moving to the First Team and Scott jumping to the Second Team, where he was joined by 2017-18 All-MAAC First Team selection Dimencio Vaughn. Tyere Marshall also appeared on the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team, giving Rider a league-high four selections. SECOND HALF STORMAfter falling behind by as many as 15 points in the first half and trailing by seven at halftime, the Broncs outshot Coppin State, 65.5 percent (19-29) to 34.3 percent (12-35) in the second half to outscore the Eagles, 54-40, in the final 20 minutes. Tyere Marshall (15 points) went 7-for-7 from the floor, while Frederick Scott (13 points) hit 4-of-5 field-goal attempts and all four free-throw attempts in the second half. Dimencio Vaughn (10) and Stevie Jordan (10) also scored double-digit points in the second half.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE DUOFrederick Scott and Tyere Marshall each had a team-best three double-doubles a year ago. Marshall entered the year with 10 career double-doubles, while Scott tied him with his 10th double-double Nov. 5 at Coppin State.

STEALING WINSAt 9.1 steals per game a year ago, Rider finished the year sixth in the nation. Stevie Jordan and Dimencio Vaughn led the Broncs at 1.9 and 1.8 thefts per contest, respectively, while Kimar Williams averaged 1.5 steals per game. FEELING 100Dimencio Vaughn joined Stevie Jordan as current Broncs with 100 career steals on Feb. 5, 2019, at Manhattan. Vaughn ac-complished the feat in 56 games.

Two-time MAAC Coach of the Year Kevin Baggett returns for his eighth season as the Rider University head basketball coach in 2019-20. In his first year as head coach, ‘Baggs’ was a finalist for two different National Coach of the Year Awards, the Ben Jobe Award and the Joe B. Hall Award. Baggett took a team with just two returning starters and six total letterwinners that was picked to finish seventh in the 10-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2013 and finished in second place. He guided the 2012-13 Broncs to a 19-win season, the most by a Rider rookie head coach since Bob Greenwood led Rider to a 20-win season in 1962-63. The only other Rider basketball coach to compile 19 wins in his rookie campaign was the legendary Clair Bee. In 2013-14 Coach Baggett took a young team and produced two All-MAAC performers along with a MAAC All-Rookie team selection. His 2013-14 squad was ranked eighth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage and was 51st in Division I in three-point field goals made. In 2014-15, Baggett took a squad that was picked seventh in the MAAC and guided the team to a 21-win season and a second place finish in the conference, earning MAAC Coach of the Year honors as Rider was selected to play in the College Basketball Invitational tournament. Baggett was a finalist for the Ben Jobe National Coaching Award for the second time in three years and he was named the UPS All-District 1 Coach of the Year. The Broncs had another very successful campaign in 2016-17, winning 18 games and advancing to the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals. Rider was offered the chance to play in multiple national postseason tournaments, but declined. Seniors Jimmie Taylor and Kahlil Thomas were each named to the All-MAAC Third Team. Rider finished first in the league in rebounds per game (40.3), with three Broncs - Thomas, Norville Carey and Taylor - finishing in the top 20 individually. 2017-18 was a banner year for Baggett and the Broncs. Picked to finish seventh in the MAAC after losing four starters to graduation, the Broncs won 22 games, a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship and advanced to the NIT for the second time in program history. Baggett was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the second time in six years, took NABC All-District 1 Coach and was also a fi-nalist for the Hugh Durham and Ben Jobe Awards. Baggett guided four players to All-MAAC honors, including First Teamer Dimencio Vaughn, Second Teamer Ste-vie Jordan and Third Team honorees Jordan Allen and Frederick Scott. Scott was named MAAC 6th Player of the Year, while Allen earned All-Rookie Team honors. Vaughn was also selected to the NABC All-District Second Team and earned Sec-ond Team All-Met. As a team, Rider led the MAAC in field-goal percentage (.465), offensive rebounds per game (13.2), rebound margin (+2.6), steals per game (7.5), rebounds per game (39.2), turnover margin (+2.2) and turnovers forced per game (15.4). Jordan led the league in assists (5.9) for the second-straight year and was 26th in the nation. Allen’s 2.88 three-point field goals made per game ranked 50th in the country, while Vaughn’s 1.83 steals per game were 55th. Baggett earned his 100th career win on Jan. 26, 2018, against Saint Peter’s.

Stevie Jordan and Frederick Scott repeated as All-MAAC Second and Third Team selections, respectively, in 2018-19, as the Broncs finished tied for second in the MAAC Regular Season Standings. Jordan recorded his 1,000th career point, be-coming the 37th player in Rider history to reach the plateau.

Baggett was named the Rider men’s basketball head coach at a standing room only press conference on May 24, 2012.

“This was a popular decision,” Rider Director of Athletics Don Harnum said at that time. “It was also a convenient decision, but let me make it very clear, this was not a hire of convenience. This was a hire because I firmly believe and am very confident that Kevin is the right person to lead this program in the future.” With an emphasis on defense, Baggett’s Broncs led the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage defense in 2012-13 and was second in overall field goal percent-age defense, third in blocks and fourth in points allowed. The 2019-20 season is the 14th for Baggett as a member of the Rider staff, serving two as an assistant coach and four as an associate head coach. In the last 13 years, Rider has compiled 234 wins, the second-most in the MAAC behind only Iona (246). Baggett has coached on the Division I level for 24 years and has been on the Rider staff since the 2006-07 season. Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph’s 1985-86 basketball team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph’s in June, 1989. Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from 2004-06. At UMBC Baggett recruited an America East All-Rookie Team member who went on to earn First Team All-Conference honors three times, as well as a pair of transfers from the Colonial Athletic Associ-ation who went on to earn All-America East honors. Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.
