We are honored to be your partner in your invaluable efforts. To help your RIF program accomplish its goals for the 2003–2004 distribu- tion year, we are pleased to present the Fall 2003 issue of RIF Rap, which includes tips for successful theme dis- tributions, suggestions for book selec- tions, and news from National RIF. We welcome your feedback and are interested in your thoughts about these and other topics that affect your program. In May, 2003, Scholastic issued a $50,000 check to RIF, representing proceeds from sales of the Clifford the Big Red Dog Deluxe Anniversary Edition. For each edition sold, Scholastic donated $1 to RIF. Happy birthday, Clifford! RIF Coordinator Barbara Arel shared the following details from a recent theme distribution: Our school enjoyed "Be a Reader-Saurus." To get the classes excited about the upcoming RIF distribution, I made paper maché dinosaur eggs with little dinosaurs inside. Each class had color-coded clues hidden around the school which led to their eggs. A RIF committee, including teachers, parents, grand- parents, and representatives from the Kiwanis clubs (our sponsors) met to select themes for the distribution. The selections included several dinosaur books— but books about snow, fire trucks, and Clifford were just as popular! Our school enjoyed "Be a Reader-Saurus." To get the classes excited about theupcoming RIF distribution, I made paper maché dinosaur eggs with littledinosaurs inside. Each class had color-coded clues hidden around the schoolwhich led to their eggs. A RIF committee, including teachers, parents, grand-parents, and representatives from the Kiwanis clubs (our sponsors) met to selectthemes for the distribution.
