CuttingCutting InstructionsPlease note: All strips are cut across the width of fabric (WOF) from selvage to selvage edge unless otherwise noted.

Fabric A (E3013-41 Tattered & Torn – Ecru), cut: • (48) 1 ½” x WOF strips. • (3) 8 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (12) 8 ½” squares. • (5) 2 ⅞” x WOF strips, sub-cut (63) 2 ⅞” squares. • (5) 2 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (40) 2 ½” x 4 ½” strips.

Fabric B (E3376-44 Vines with Berries – Ecru), cut: • (2) 4 ⅞” x WOF strips, sub-cut (12) 4 ⅞” squares.

Fabric C (E3013-77 Tattered & Torn – Blue), cut: • (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip, sub-cut (13) 2 ⅞” squares. • (30) 1 ½” x WOF strips.

Fabric D (E3375-33 Large Floral – Lt. Brown), cut: • (2) 16 ¾” x WOF strips, sub-cut (4) 16 ¾” squares. Cut the squares across both diagonals to make (16) side setting triangles. Note: Only fourteen triangles will be used. • (1) 8 ⅝” x WOF strip, sub-cut (2) 8 ⅝” squares. Cut the squares across (1) diagonal to make (4) corner setting triangles.

Fabric E (E3286-40 Slater Mill Geo – Ecru), cut: • (8) 6 ½” x WOF strips for the outer border.

Fabric F (E3378-77 Small Stars – Navy), cut: • (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip, sub-cut (8) 2 ⅞” squares.

Fabric G (E3378-88 Small Stars – Red), cut: • (1) 4 ⅞” x WOF strip, sub-cut (3) 4 ⅞” squares and (8) 2 ⅞” squares. • (1) 2 ½” x WOF strip, sub-cut (10) 2 ½” squares.

SewingSew using a ¼” seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always

press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows.

Block Assembly1. Place (1) 4 ⅞” Fabric B square on top of (1) 4 ⅞” Fabric I square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 1). Sew ¼” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 1). Cut the (2) squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 2) to make (2) IB units (Fig. 3). Trim IB units to measure 4 ½” square. Repeat to make (6) IB units total (only five will be used).

2. Repeat Step 1 using (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric J squares and (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric B squares to make (6) 4 ½” JB units (Fig. 4). (Only five will be used).

3. Repeat Step 1 using (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric G squares and (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric B squares to make (6) 4 ½” GB units (Fig. 5). (Only five will be used).

4. Repeat Step 1 using (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric H squares and (3) 4 ⅞” Fabric B squares to make (6) 4 ½” HB units (Fig. 6). (Only five will be used).

5. Repeat Step 1 using (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric C squares and (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (26) 2 ½” CA units (Fig. 7). Note: Only twenty-five CA Units will be used.

6. Repeat Step 1 using (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric F squares and (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (16) 2 ½” FA units (Fig. 8). Note: Only fifteen FA Units will be used.

7. Repeat Step 1 using (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric H squares and (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (16) 2 ½” HA units (Fig. 9). Note: Only fifteen HA Units will be used.

8. Repeat Step 1 using (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric G squares and (8) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (16) 2 ½” GA units (Fig. 10). Note: Only fifteen GA Units will be used.

9. Repeat Step 1 using (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric I squares and (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (26) 2 ½” IA units (Fig. 11). Note: Only twenty-five IA Units will be used.

10. Repeat Step 1 using (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric J squares and (13) 2 ⅞” Fabric A squares to make (26) 2 ½” JA units (Fig. 12). Note: Only twenty-five JA Units will be used.

11. Sew (1) CA unit and (1) JA unit together. Sew this strip to the right side (1) IB unit. Sew (1) CA unit, (1) JA unit and (1) HA unit together, in that order. Sew this strip to the top of the IB unit. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric G square to the left end of (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric A strip. Sew this strip to the bottom of the IB unit. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric G square to the top of (1) AH unit. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric A strip to the top of the resulting strip. Sew this strip to the left side of the IB unit to make (1) Block One (Fig. 13). Repeat to make (5) Block Ones total.

12. Repeat Step 11 and use Figure 14 for fabric identification and location to make (5) Block Twos.

13. Repeat Step 11 and use Figure 15 for fabric identification and location to make (5) Block Threes.

14. Repeat Step 11 and use Figure 16 for fabric identification and location to make (5) Block Fours.

15. Sew (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric A strip to the top and to the bottom of (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric C strip lengthwise to make (1) ACA strip set (Fig. 17). Repeat to make (20) ACA strip sets total.

16. Cut the ACA strip sets into (80) 3 ½” x 8 ½” Unit 1 strips (Fig. 18).

17. Sew (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric C strip to each side of (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric A strip lengthwise to make (1) CAC strips set (Fig. 19). Repeat to make (4) CAC strip sets total.

18. Cut the CAC strip sets into (98) 1 ½” x 3 ½” Unit 2 strips (Fig. 20).

19. Sew (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric A strip to each side of (1) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric C strip lengthwise to make (1) ACA strips set (Fig. 21). Repeat to make (2) ACA strip sets total.

20. Cut the ACA strip sets into (49) 1 ½” x 3 ½” Unit 3 strips (Fig. 22).

21. Sew (1) Unit 2 strip to the top and to the bottom of (1) Unit 3 strip lengthwise to make (1) Unit 4 (Fig. 23). Repeat to make (49) Unit 4’s total.

Quilt Top Assembly(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)22. Follow Figure 24 and sew (5) Block Ones, (5) Block Twos, (5) Block Threes, (5) Block Fours, (80) Unit 1’s, (49) Unit 4’s and (14) side setting triangles together first. Sew the four corner setting triangles on last to make the quilt top.

23. Measure the sides of quilt top. Sew (4) 6 ½” x WOF Fabric E strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) strips equal to the side measurement. Sew (1) strip to each side of the quilt top.

24. Measure the top and bottom of the quilt top. Sew (4) 6 ½” x WOF Fabric E strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) strips equal to the top and bottom measurements. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top.

Binding26. Cut the ends of the (9) Fabric J binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make (1) continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together.

27. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place.

Layering, Quilting and Finishing25. Press the quilt top and 87” x 102” backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete.
