LEARNING OBJECTIVES To cultivate the habit of doing a Risk Assessment

before starting a task:-• To be able to break a task into small activities.• To be able identify hazard and risk in each

activities• To be able to take the necessary measures

before starting the activity.

EXERCISE: Hazard Identification• Groups will be given a series of photos.

• Groups to discuss if there is hazard present in the photos.

• Findings will be recorded on the photos.

• Groups will have 20 minutes to discuss and record findings.

• Each group will be called upon to present their findings.

Page 27: Risk Based Approach

What is Exposure?• A person is exposed to an hazard:-

• When is he working on a equipment or tool• When he is in close proximity of a functioning equipment

What is “RISK”?• Risk is a chance that someone could be injured when

exposed to a hazard.

• Risk likely-hood vary from low to high.

• Risk can indicate the seriousness of the harm.

1. TASKS Listing the tasks of a job is key to managing the risk. Remember to list

non-routine as well as daily tasks!

2. HAZARDS Identifying hazards means thinking of all the possible events that could

be dangerous.

3. EVALUATION By evaluating the chance of a hazard causing harm, you are assessing

the risk. Think always of the worst case.

4. MEASURES Explore all existing measures available to reduce or eliminate these

risks.

5. IDEAS You are the best placed to come up with ideas to improve Health &

Safety.

The FIVE EASY STEPS

GROUP WORK 6 : What have we learned today?

• Groups will discuss about their main learning points.• At least 3 main learning points

• List out the learning points in a white paper.

• Groups will have 20 minutes to discuss and list.

• Each group will be called upon to present their main learning points with explanation..
