Here are Some Festival HighlightsPhil Palombi

G r a m m y a w a r d - w i n n i n g ba ssist Phil Palombi is “one of the most sought after bass players in New York,” according to Steely Dan tenor saxophon-ist and renowned jazz musician Walt Weiskopf.

Since moving to New York City in 1997, Palombi has slow-ly but surely moved through t h e r a n k s o f t h e N ew Yo r k Jazz elite. His resume now in-cludes recordings and perfor-mances with Michael Brecker, Billy Har t , Joe Lovano, Dave L i e b m a n , Et t a J o n e s , M ay -nard Ferguson, Chris Pot ter, Rich Perry, Curtis Stigers, To-shiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin, Chucho Valdes, Mark Turner, and The Village Vanguard Or-chestra to name a few. Author

of “Scott LaFaro – 15 Solo Tran-scriptions,” in which he tran-scribed all of Scot t LaFaro’s bass solos from the Bill Evans recordings “Sunday at the Vil-lage Vanguard” and “Walt z

for Debby.” Palombi recorded the t r ibute CD “RE:Per son I Knew – A Tribute to Scott La-Faro” in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of LaFaro’s untimely death. The 12-track

recording features piano leg-end Don Friedman and drum great Eliot Zigmund. Phil was gr a n ted ac ce s s to L a Fa ro’s 1925 Prescott bass for the trib-ute, which helps to make this a

have Tony Romano, who ha s been a vital par t of the New York City music scene for over twenty years, and Eric Halvor-son. Of Romano, Just Jazz Gui-tar magazine wrote: “His tone is beautiful and soulful, and his remarkable technique is a ser-vant to his rich musical imagi-nat ion a nd broad ha rmonic palette.”

With a wide range of play-ing styles, Romano has toured worldwide and performed and recorded with many notable Latin, jazz, pop, and Broadway artists. Romano’s guitar work can be heard on all 52 episodes of the BBC series “3rd & Bird.” He has also performed for the Discovery Channel miniseries “Going, Going, Gone!” and Na-tional Public Radio broadcasts, a s well a s NBC’s The Today Show, Telemundo, and the ABC

Blues, Don’t Tell Mamma’s, The Danbury Music Hall, Yonkers River Fest, NYC Chamber of Commerce street fair and Purchase College. Her original music has been featured on local radio, internet radio, and television stations. Her song, “With The Angels” written for 9/11, was fea-tured on two documentary DVD’s. She was honored with a plaque and a letter of gratitude from the NYC Fire Commissioner. One of DeAngelis’ works, “Lady,” was performed by artist Anthony Rodriguez (for-mer Madonna dancer and choreographer for major pop artists) for the presi-dent of Turkey. Currently DeAngelis’ song “Alone” will be featured in an up-dated indie version of “Ro-meo and Juliet” and is be-ing recorded by a Grammy award winning engineer. A few of Michelle’s past credits as a musical direc-tor include “Peter Pan,” “Big River” and “Les Miz,” “Songs for a New World,” “Children of Eden,” “The Music Man,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “West Side Story,” “Something Funny Hap-pened on the Way to the Forum,” “Spit f ire Grill ,”

Steve Oates is a solo in-strumental guitarist who has played in such places as The United Nations, The Plaza Hotel, The Tavern on the Green, The Cunard QE2, The Metropolitan Club and the Boat House in Central

Park. Locally he has played at KRVC events, the Elisa Con-temporary Art Gallery and is a regular performer at the An Beal Bocht Café. Steve has also worked professionally as an ac-tor and can be seen in the fea-ture film “Ransom.”
