April 28, 1888 Rizal first saw America on April 28,
1888.
His arrival in the great country was marred by racial prejudice.

All passengers were not allowed to land because the American health authority placed the ship under quarantine on the ground that it came from the Far East where cholera epidemic was alleged to be raging.

The reason for placing the ship under quarantine was motivated by politics.

After a week Rizal together with other first class passengers were permitted to land.
