Road towards Core Banking Solutions

Major efforts towards computerization in the banking industry started almost two decades ago,

when stand alone computers were introduced and with the advent in technology, banking sector

also employed it in its day today operations.

Automated ledger posting machines were introduced in the early 80s which laid thefoundation for automation in banks. In that era operations of the bank were conducted on

stand alone computers catering to the needs of consumers and as well improving the

efficiency of the banks. These operations were limited to the particular service at specific

branches. Implementation of this improved the functioning of the banks and also exposed

the employees to the use of computers, however it did not met the expectations and

demands of the customers.

Banks adopted the concept of single window, which meant that the branches move overto a client-server environment in order to meet the customer expectations and further

improve the efficiency therein. This led to networking with in the branch and the

branches were classified as Partially Automated Branch or Totally Automated branch
