Analyzing Strategic Management Cases
First year of Revolt: built a large body of men with grievances; made a
disciplined fighting force; housed in Sherwood Forest
Robin ruled supreme had lieutenants to whom he delegated functions
Fame spread the band grew
As the band grew, discipline slackened and food was scarce.
Revenues were running short as the rich were avoiding the forest
Robin hood was a good leader
Experience in training new recruits and stoling travelers
The band’s organization in departments
Group’s location
Sheriff is getting stronger; more men and money
Band is running out of money
Food is scarce
How do we decisively end the conflict before the Sheriff regains control?
Key Question:How Robin could improve their
situation?Should Merrymen have killed sheriff? or
not?Should Merrymen change their policy of
tax and recruitment? or not?Should Merrymen collaborateWhat plan should Robin choose? What action steps will need to be taken to make yours recommended plan work successfully?

Question Option / Hypothesis
Decision Criteria
Pro Cons
Kill sheriff or not ? No Not in better positionto fight with sheriff
•It will give more time to frame strategy • less risk
•He can attack any time
Tax policy No No risk •No different in there image
•They was not getting the source
Collaborate with Barons or not?
Yes take a chance on getting King Richard back and getting rid of John and the Sheriff in one fell swoop
•Get capital to grow the business and feed the troops
Back stabbing from barons Merrymen should be alert
After collaboration
We have developed several recommendations for the Merrymen to aid in the success of the group. It is our belief that the current
strategy is one that can again be successful but many changes need to be implemented to ensure this strategy’s success.
1. The Merrymen’s expertise in their robbing techniques is a key success factor for the band. Robbing is what they are best at. 2. Capturing the learning curve effect of robbing the rich, due to the vast amount of knowledge the Merrymen could offer to new recruits, is a key success factor. 3. The bands access to attractive supplies of skilled labor due to the popular image of the merrymen is a key success factor.4. A strong network of members is a key success factor based on the popularity of Robin Hood’s band of men.
