Our students are back into a routine and are working hard to achieve their best. We had a very busy September. A big thank you to our PAC for hosting our Welcome Back Barbeque. I would also like to encourage each of you to join our incredible PAC, and participate as much as your busy lives permit. The next PAC meeting will be Tuesday, October 16 th at 6:30 in the library. September has come and gone! We enjoyed a great first month of school. Our students are back into a routine and are working hard to achieve their best. We had a very busy September. A big thank you to our PAC for hosting our Welcome Back Barbeque. I would also like to encourage each of you to join our incredible PAC, and participate as much as your busy lives permit. The next PAC meeting will be Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 in the library.

The Terry Fox Run was a success, we raised over $1318.29. Way to go RMES! Thank you to all our parents who volunteered, and came out to run with us. Thank you to the PAC for supplying us with oranges, and thank you to the RCMP for keeping us safe on our run. We had our end of month assembly on Orange Shirt Day. Ms. Bauer with any questions or wishes to donate.

Roots of Empathy

Presented by: Mrs. Susan Teslak to Mrs. King’s Grade 1 Classroom.

Research on the Roots of Empathy program has shown that children who participate in the program know more about emotions and feelings, are kinder to their friends, are less aggressive and bully other children less than those who do not have Roots of Empathy.

Our visiting mom & baby are: Desiree Oakley and baby Layton. Layton was born on June 20, 2018, and has been in to the classroom 1 time – on October 4th.

Monday, October 29th Earth Rangers is a Canadian environmental education and conservation non-profit aimed specifically at youth.

.

Scholastic Fall Book Fair will be held November 5 – 8, 2018 in the RMES Library – before school and after school until 3:30 PM

Please note that we can only accept Cash or Cheques.

WHAT A ROOTS OF EMPATHY FAMILY DOES

The heart of Roots of Empathy is a neighbourhood parent and baby who join the Instructor in the classroom for nine Family Visits, each about 40 minutes long. Our program celebrates the power of the family in the development of the baby as a person. We ask the parent to share with the students how it feels to be a parent. Students have lots of questions about the baby and about what it takes to be a parent. Since the focus is on parent-infant bonds, fathers and/or mothers are equally welcome to participate. The Roots of Empathy Instructor also visits a week before and a week after each Family visit. This is to prepare and reinforce teachings using a specialized lesson plan

for each visit.

Earth Rangers is the kids’ conservation organization, dedicated to educating children and their families about biodiversity, inspiring them to adopt sustainable behaviours and empowering them to become directly involved in protecting animals and their habitats. The Earth Rangers School Assembly is a dynamic and interactive presentation that leverages the shared, innate connection children of all backgrounds have to animals. Through the power of live animal demonstrations and positive, science-based information, our high-quality program educates students about the importance of protecting biodiversity while highlighting real conservation initiatives across Canada. The program is recreated each and every year, ensuring the inclusion of current and relevant topics and staying fresh and exciting for students and teachers. This year we will be focusing on climate change and its impact on people, wildlife and the environment. Throughout the Assembly, students are introduced to four of the Earth Rangers Animal Ambassadors, including animals like Kateri the Peregrine Falcon, Gizmo the Eurasian Eagle Owl, and Quillow the Prehensile-tailed Porcupine. The 45-minute Assembly takes place in the school gym and will feature: • LIVE Animal Ambassadors demonstrating their amazing natural behaviours • Multiple interactive components, including a trivia game that gets students and teachers involved • Educational, curriculum-linked information appropriate for Grades 1-6
