LSmart UI

LSmart is RFID/ EM based solution from Libsys, Gurgaon for modern libraries. RFID provides security and identification whereas EM provides security and an additional barcode provides identification. LSmart is staff/admin side interface allowing librarian to do all the activities ranging from check-in, check-out, renew, tagging, enquiry etc.

As this was a touch interface there was a change required in whole interaction. And as targeted users had changed I had to modify the problems and solutions as per the user group.

LSmart also provides an automatic kiosk where user can do check-in, check-out, renew etc. activities by themselves. As it is a touch based solution It had a very different interaction . The UI resembles a lot but due to touch interaction changes had to be made and to ease process the flow was made as fluid as possible and intuitive.

As users had changes there was a change required in functionality and priority. Taxonomy had to be changes as per users requirement. I did a little card-sorting and role playing to find requirements for users at different times during different activities . The I made certain mockups as per touch interface and then proceeded with low fidelity prototypes and further refined them to make the whole functionality fluid. There on I proceeded with wireframes and UI of the project.

LSNetDuration: Sept’ 2010 – Nov’ 2010

Co-designed with : Punit Mathur

Done for: Libsys, Gurgaon

LS Net is a web based service where users can share their books, CD’s & E-content. The service allows users to upload their collection to their virtual library. And LSNet will have a logistics partner which will take care of all transportation. Users can earn points by sharing, the whole service currently will be launched in NCR region on a trial basis.

I was involved with Punit Mathur in the project. As the project was a web based service we studied our competitors extensively. And tried to add web 2.0 features to make the service more interesting. Various add-on features were added apart from sharing etc. so that it becomes a platform for book readers to share.

Transit Information Ubiservice using Real Time Traffic-related parameters in context to Indian metropolitan city.

Scenario generation

Use Case Diagram

As Indian cities grow in size and population and the infrastructure remain outpaced by them, there is lot of problem in traffic management. The best course of option would be efficient use of existing services.

The service allowed users, who use public transportation can have real time information about the traffic and plan their journey accordingly. As the device of interaction was mobile we had to carefully plan out the whole details of the information provided.

iPlatform™ offer opportunities for publishers to create rich portals around a book, a series of books or a specific published content. The project was to design the user-end portal in which the users can create accounts and buy e-books and other media content. One of the major features developed was the user generated data that can be complied and even published making user amateur authors. It was developed, while keeping in mind of the different class of users.

Energy Updates for low end mobile phones

This was a semester project from Microsoft Research for IIT Guwahati. We developed a low fidelity prototype for the project. The application allows users to monitor their energy consumption approximately and tell user how every device affects their bill. Users can add devices and input their daily consumption, the application provides daily pattern.

In the planning phase we did a literature review and studied existing cases. We also studied the status quo of the Indian scenario. Afterwards we conducted user interviews, survey to get the problem areas. We also collected very important information that were irrelevant to project but was necessary for the users. After refining we refined our problem set and designed as per them.

Interactive MapDuration: Jan’ 2009 – Apr’ 2009

Co-designed with: Ayush Bajaj

Guided by: Prof. Debkumar Chakraborty, IITG

Interactive map of IIT Guwahati provides user with all the information of the campus and other features. As IITG has a printed IITG map that was even very old. We decided to make an interactive map which will not only provide directions and other places but also details for the institution and building We did a literature review and studied interactive other maps. We designed the touch screen as a base so that the map also becomes navigation component and the slanted screen becomes the information screen.

This is kiosk design that I developed in accordance with ergonomic factors. Also I developed a interactive map of IIT Guwahati displaying information of about important places and routes using legends etc.

LSAcademia WebsiteDuration: mid Jun’ 2010 – Aug’ 2010

Worked as: Design Lead

Done for: Libsys, Gurgaon

LSAcademia is one of the latest product of Libsys, Gurgaon. It is an ERP software for schools which is currently under development. I designed and developed the website as per the requirements given to me by the sales and marketing team.

In the designing process I did literature review on corporate websites and competitor’s website. Afterwards I gathered requirements from sales and marketing team. Then I made Information architecture for the website and then started making paper prototypes for selecting the layout of the website. Then I made iterations for home pages and internal pages and after finalization of the solution I started making end product (HTML website).

Guided by: Dr. Ravi Mokashi Punekar, IITG

This project was done as part of my semester project Prof. Ravi Mokashi Punekar. The project’s main aim was to provide reliable information about what design to amateurs and inquisitive people. It also involved developing social networking aid for online help gathering and a repository for basic design information. We developed content and basic framework and made wireframes and paper prototypes and finally culminated into a full fledged website.

Co-designed with: Vatsal Uttarwar, Tom Foran

Guided by: Prof. Bob Fields, Middlesex University, London

This project was done as part of my summer internship at Middlesex University, London under Prof. Bob fields, Interaction Design Center. The project involved development of interaction and navigation system of the platform. My role in the project was to develop interaction system of the platform with the environment and with the people (users). We were also involved with the multimedia add-on in the platform so that platform can respond to the user’s actions. Autonomous Platform

LSNet Virtual TourDuration: Sept’ 2010 – Nov’ 2010

Worked as: Design Lead

Done for: Libsys, Gurgaon

LS Net virtual tour allows users to visualize the whole service. It is a flash intro for the website. Also It shows how users can do various activities on LS Net. I started the project by finding most important activities in the service and then by story boarding I made visualization of how the animation would be. Also user would be easily instructed about using LSNet.
