On June 28-July 8, 2018, the heavy rains across to

Western Japan had made serious damage in

Hiroshima, Okayama, and Ehime Prefectures

including flooding and landslides

based on activity records containing

the formation and activities of our

team at disaster volunteer center

36,307 households

(Male: 35,717 people, Female 40,521 people)

・Average: 51.95 yo(Male 49.32 yo, Female 54.28 yo)

・65 years of age or older: 37.9%

Half or Complete Collapsed:115 houses

Grasp the health and daily living

needs of vulnerable people

Prevention of heat stroke

Infection control

PREVENTION OF HEAT STROKE

Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) as indicator to

manage physical conditions

Enlightenment activities

Patrol activity

To reduce seriously persons suffered from heat stroke

Cleaning / disinfection of tools (scope, googles, etc)

NEEDS OF VULNERABLE PEOPLE

To provide support for people who cannot speak out

To support people who are isolated and confined

with uneasy feelings

SUMMARY 1

No cases of heat stroke or infectious diseases were

reported during our activity

Home visits revealed issues concerning daily life needs

and mental health

Many elderly people living alone in the house after

the disaster

SUMMARY 2

As the evacuation life has prolonged, survivors do

not want to return home

Lost of motivation for living

The energy and activity level of the local residents

were decreasing so that affected to their health

status

Community leaders and local welfare

commissioner cannot support to the local residents'

lives

DISCUSSION

Stay considerate of the victims' feelings (anger, regret, anxiety, sorrow, and loneliness)

Ensuring living, necessary meals, drainage, cleanliness, ensuring sleep

Reporting health situation to the local heath department and other related organization

Think together so that the person can regain and restructure their life

Care for survivors

Carry out volunteer activities safely and make

health management and environment

improvement so that they can go home safely

Provide necessary care while evaluating the health

condition and workplace environment of local

people who are undergoing support activities

Care for supporters

CONCLUSION

Role of disaster nursing at disaster volunteer centers is:

Not only to ensure the health and

safety among volunteers, but also we

should consider supporting the health

and well-being of survivors.
