• One-on-one with the teacher usually taking on the role of patient and the learner taking on the role of the physician.
• Larger group with roles being assigned amongst learners.
Use
• Can give learners insight into their own attitudes and images.

Simulation
Description
Brief written clinical scenarios with accompanying relevant management question.
Refers to a variety of different learning and evaluation tools that attempt to imitate real clinical scenarios

Patient management problems (PMPs) Anatomical models Virtual reality environments Combinations of above
• Patient management problemsShort descriptions of clinical situations, followed by a series of questions aimed at assessing a learner’s knowledge

Use
• Patient Management Problems are useful in assessing a learner’s: Management skills
• Ability to integrate clinical knowledge in the diagnosis or treatment of patients' concerns

• Virtual reality environments and anatomical models offer the ability to assess procedural skills and the interpretation of clinical findings under a variety of conditions without concern for harm to patients Both are useful in assessing practice performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Simulations are often included in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs)
