Rolling Two Number Cubes

• Good practice for addition of numbers in primary.

• Play some games– See who is the first one to fill all the boxes 2-12 on

their strip. Keep track of the number of repeats– I win if the sum is 5,6,7,or 8 you win the rest.

• Collect data to see which sums occur most frequently.

Other possibilities with two die:

• Absolute value of the difference between the die.

• Sum of numbers even or odd• Product of numbers even or odd• Difference of numbers negative or positive• Doubles or not doubles

Going to Recess

• 12 students are going to be put into rooms numbered 1-12.

• When two number cubes are rolled, the sum of the number cubes indicates which door will be opened to allow one student to go to recess.

• Place the 12 students in the rooms of your choice. Each room will hold up to 12 students.

• We will roll the dice to see who gets their whole class to go to recess first.

Best Choice

• Will a sum of 1 ever occur?• As with any probability experiment each time

the game is played will be different.• The best choice is to place the number of

students in each room found by multiplying the probability of of getting that number by 12 students.

• For example P(7) = 6/36 * 12 = 2
