The main source of operating funds for St. Thomas the Apostle Parish is our weekly offertory collection. To assist us in being good stewards of God’s gift of treasure, our collection from last weekend is compared below to the collection the same weekend a year ago. You will notice that the amount is considerably less and has been for quite some time. Although we have been cutting costs for the last several years, our income has also been less which means the expenses for the year may not be met. Please help your Parish to make up the difference by being as generous as your means allow. The information below will be updated weekly.

Second Sunday of Advent 2011 $ 19,593 Second Sunday of Advent 2012 $ 14,726 Difference This Year vs. Last Year: $ (-4,867) July1-Nov. 30 2012 vs. Last Year $(-34,468)

WHY CHOOSE A CATHOLIC SCHOOL EDUCATION?

Family and Community

A Catholic School recognizes the parents and family as primary educators and joins with them to form a living community of shared visions. • Catholic Schools help students understand that each

person is unique and valuable. • Catholic Schools join with the family to help students

understand their special place in the family, the Church, and society.

• Catholic Schools encourage family input and involvement in the ongoing education of their children. Research shows that such a partnership results in higher attendance rates and lower dropout rates.

• Catholic Schools strive to create a special bond among the students, the home, the school, and the church, so that all share the strong sense of community.

Every child shares in an educational environment filled with love and concern -- a community joining together to help create a better world.

Religious Education News

Currently our Religious Education program offers classes for children in grades 1 through 8 with grades 1 and 2 meeting on Tuesdays and grades 3 through 8 meeting on Mondays from 3:40 – 5:00. Registration is ongoing.

We also offer an alternative Summer CCD Program which, this year, runs from July 8th through July 19th each day from 9:00 – 12:30PM. Registration is limited to parishioners only and will begin in mid-January. Space for our Summer Program is limited so please watch the bulletin for the registration announcement.

Sacramental preparation is a two year commitment which means that children who would like to make their First Communion in second grade must complete first grade in order to be eligible. Additional information may be found at our website stachurchbloomfield.com or by calling the Religious Education Office at 338-7400. There will be NO CCD the week of 12/24 and 12/25 and NO CCD the week of 12/31 and 1/1. Classes will resume on Monday, January 7th.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our students, families, and catechists!

St. Thomas the Apostle Mission Statement

The Roman Catholic faith community of St. Thomas the Apostle recognizes God’s call to be a sign of His Kingdom in the communities we serve. We respond to this call by:

† Leading people to a deeper relationship with Christ by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, renewal, education, the celebration of the Sacraments, and the worship of God in the sacred liturgy;

† Encouraging a commitment to justice and to service of those in need;

† Promoting good stewardship of our time, talent and treasure;

† Building a community of hospitality and support in the daily living out of Christian ideals by nourishing mutual respect and understanding within our Church, our families, our community, and other faith traditions.

The Filipino-American Community of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish announces the last Simbang Gabi* Novena Mass in the surrounding area this

season.

*Simbang Gabi is one of the most popular Filipino traditions celebrated in this country. Simbang Gabi or Mass at Dawn is a nine-day novena to our Blessed Mother in anticipation of the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The culmination is the Christmas Eve mass to welcome the birth of Jesus.
