Romania – Mani Pulite? Since end of 2014 a lot of Romanian high-level politicians were arrested for investigations related to corruption. We are speaking about ministers, senators, deputies, mayors of big cities, and so on. In January and February of 2015 the daily news in Romania were related mainly to politicians going to jail, the only question remaining: who will be the next one? Many almighty people until now were arrested in a very short time and the amount of bribery declared is hardly imaginable - many hundreds of millions of Euros. We have found that restitution of properties confiscated in communism was strongly distorted by a “black market” in which the papers were falsified or purely invented and large surfaces of land were transferred to people who bought the legacy rights of elderly people who struggled in vain, for many years, to reclaim their rights. But, these buyers, having a high level protection, succeeded to obtain these heritages for them in shortest time. Two important people were arrested in the restitutions cases. One is the Director of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), who was previously the director of National Authority for Property Restitution. The second is the director of the National Integrity Authority (ANI) who also worked in Property Restitution Authority. Both cases mentioned above are not yet convicted, but even the suspicion of corruption of heads of two important judicial institutions of the state is frightening. How they were nominated? What is their legitimity? ANI is an institution created under European Union pressure, having the mission to monitor the state employees assets. This means that they check the balance between the incomes and the assets of these people, including for high level politicians. In this moment we cannot trust how this institution works and if all their reports are reliable. More of that, both institutions are part of reports of Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, which monitors the evolution of justice in Romania and Bulgaria (more information here-http://ec.europa.eu/cvm/progress_reports_en.htm) For all this situation is responsible an institution namely National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) which investigated these cases

Romania Mani Pulite?Since end of 2014 a lot of Romanian high-level politicians were arrested for investigations related to corruption. We are speaking about ministers, senators, deputies, mayors of big cities, and so on.In January and February of 2015 the daily news in Romania were related mainly to politicians going to jail, the only question remaining: who will be the next one? Many almighty people until now were arrested in a very short time and the amount of bribery declared is hardly imaginable - many hundreds of millions of Euros. We have found that restitution of properties confiscated in communism was strongly distorted by a black market in which the papers were falsified or purely invented and large surfaces of land were transferred to people who bought the legacy rights of elderly people who struggled in vain, for many years, to reclaim their rights. What is their legitimity?ANI is an institution created under European Union pressure, having the mission to monitor the state employees assets. This means that they check the balance between the incomes and the assets of these people, including for high level politicians. In this moment we cannot trust how this institution works and if all their reports are reliable.More of that, both institutions are part of reports of Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, which monitors the evolution of justice in Romania and Bulgaria (more information here-http://ec.europa.eu/cvm/progress_reports_en.htm)For all this situation is responsible an institution namely National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) which investigated these cases during last few years without any sign that this will explode in last months of 2014.There are a lot of hypotheses related to their actions, but the fact that the institution is impartial is shown by the fact that politicians from all parties are arrested. The plague of corruption becomes generalized and transparty, this assumption seems to be confirmed by the Microsoft case, in which many ministers, from all parties and from eight governments, are involved since 2000 (I will present something from this amazing case of 60 millions of Euros bribery later).Coming back to the main topic, I dont believe in a full restructuration of politics in Romania, as Italy tried in 80s by anti-corruption fight named Mani Pulite . Like other people, I only hope that these actions will influence the politicians in the sense to keep away from corruption, fact which is to be seen.
