Introduction omeoville began in the late 1800s as Romeo, the twin community to Juliet, now Joliet. Romeoville’s roots are embedded in the historic I&M Canal system. Primarily, the canal served to supply Chicago proper with produce in exchange for manufactured goods.

During the early part of the 20th century, as frequent commercial tra� c thrived on the canal, Romeoville thrived as a popular resort destination. Isle a la Cache and Romeo Beach attracted numerous a� uent Chicago residents. Since being incorporated on Jan. 21, 1895, Romeoville has experienced various periods of expansion and growth to become the largest community totally incorporated within Will County, Illinois.

Today, Romeoville is home to nearly 600 businesses and over 40,000 residents.

Location omeoville’s location provides excellent accessibility to highway, rail, water shipping and air transportation. Romeoville is conve-niently located along the Stevenson Expressway (I-55), with direct ac-cess at Weber Road and Joliet Road. Additional major thoroughfares include the North-South Tollway (I-355) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294/I-80). O’Hare International Airport is just 30 miles away and Midway Airport is just 20 miles away. � e Joliet Port District Airport, located in Romeoville, provides convenient air transportation for all businesses in the Chicago area. � e airport functions as a thriving corporate airport and is home to Lewis University’s Aviation Program. Additional transportation opportunities are on the forefront for Romeoville.

� e Village of Romeoville remains proactive in addressing transpor-tation needs. Romeoville has always been known for its attractive location. What is even more attractive is Romeoville’s ongoing com-mitment to improve existing routes and secure additional modes of

transportation for residents and businesses, such as the construction of a new Metra station, which is currently in the engineering phase. � is station will be located on 135th Street near New Avenue. Prog-ress also continues for a new interchange at Airport Road and I-55, as well as plans for a diverging diamond interchange at Weber Road and I-55. � ese improvements will help to address future needs along the Weber Road Corridor.

Business & Industry he Village of Romeoville considers itself to be a place “Where Community Matters,” placing value on its past and present part-nerships with the business community and delivering on its promises. This is what has helped the village of 40,000 residents to become a pre-miere site for commercial and industrial development, offering con-venient access to major transportation routes, development potential and an expanding pool of skilled employees. More than 600 businesses are currently located in Romeoville. Since 2009, Romeoville has added more than 1 million square feet of new commercial development. The village also has been recognized for the most jobs created for any organization of its size by adding 1,560 new jobs between 2012 and 2013. Romeoville boasts an attractive location, centrally located 26 miles southwest of Chicago. The village is highly accessible, featuring the Lewis University Airport and close proximity to interstates 55 and 355 and Route 53. The village also continues its commitment to im-prove existing routes, such as reconstructing the Weber Road and Interstate 55 interchange and securing additional modes of trans-

portation for residents and busi-nesses, including plans to open a new Metra station. The village also is home to the Joliet Regional Port District Air-port, which provides commercial, industrial, institutional and per-sonal aviation services to Will County. More than $75 million has been invested in the facility to help meet the needs of corporate air crafts. Businesses within Romeoville can draw from pools of employee talent from local colleges, including Lewis University, Rasmussen College, Joliet Junior College and a number of technical schools. These educational institutions produce qualified individuals who can succeed in positions of high demand and help add to the economic strength of the community. Over the past 10 years, the village has made a significant investment, $83 million in its public infrastructure. One of these efforts was to revitalize its Uptown Square. Although Romeoville lacked a traditional downtown area, the village has a 40-acre established site that is defined

as Uptown Square. Seeing much of the retail development within that area migrate westward, staff and community stakeholders worked to transform this underutilized area into a vibrant place that now serves the village and has village-wide appeal. The Village of Romeoville sees the importance of attracting as well as retaining business and offers various forms of assistance and develop-ment incentives to do so. These are designed to help the village achieve its long-term goals to expand the property and sales tax base as well as provide new jobs and enhance quality of life in the community while also meet the cost concerns of businesses. Understanding that part of retaining and expanding existing businesses is learning to listen, the village makes it a priority to learn about issues business owners are facing. By interviewing business owners and analyzing the re-sults, the village then develops recommendations for policies and programs. In 2014, Romeoville was one of six villages across the state to receive the Economic Development Award from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Development Council. The village was recognized for the Peacock Engineering expansion. The Peacock Engineering Company, LLC headquartered in Geneva, Illinois, added over 500,000 square feet of space to its existing portfolio of four facilities for a total of 1.9 million square feet by leasing a facility in Romeoville. This is the second time Romeoville has received this award. The future of Romeoville is positive, looking forward to new retail devel-opments, improved infrastructure and an enhanced transportation system.

Families enjoy summertime park parties, a concert series and movies under the stars at Deer Crossing Park & Amphitheatre, as well as monthly Cruisin’ the Square nights from May to September.

� e community’s signature end-of-summer event, RomeoFest, draws around 50,000 guests and features outstanding � reworks and a variety of family entertainment.

Sports enthusiasts enjoy excellent recreation activities at Brunswick Zone XL, Canlan’s Ice Center, Edward Hospital Athletic & Event Cen-ter and one of Chicagoland’s premier golf courses – Mistwood Golf Club. In 2015, Mistwood completed a multimillion-dollar clubhouse

Visitors can � nd Isle a la Cache Museum along the Illinois & Michigan Canal Heritage Corridor. Past and present come to-gether in vibrant displays including tools, weapons, beaver pelts and period artifacts. Individuals who enjoy the performing arts should visit Lewis University, home of the Phillip Lynch � eater.

In addition to local amenities, Romeoville residents are only min-utes away from neighbor-ing communities o� ering theater productions, night clubs, comedy

clubs, casinos and family entertainment. Profes-sional minor league baseball is locat-ed just to the south in Joliet where families can enjoy an a� ordable night of family enter-tainment watching the 2011 Frontier League Champions, the Joliet Slammers.

Romeoville’s youth attend four highly regarded school districts – Valley View Consolidated Unit District 365U, Plain� eld School District 202, Lockport Township High School District 205 and Richland Grade School 88A. Five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school are located within the village boundaries. Additionally, two private schools are within the corporate limits: Bible Baptist Christian Academy and St. Andrew Catholic School.

Lewis University, found-ed in 1932, has grown from a small technical school into a mid-sized campus of about 6,600 students. � e Lewis main campus is a picturesque 376-acre suburban setting that houses 1,000 students in 11 residence halls. Lewis o� ers over

60 undergraduate majors at its main campus, as well as 14 graduate programs, and degree completion programs for working adults.

� e North Campus of Joliet Junior College, America’s oldest public community college, is located just o� of Weber Road on 135th Street and has over 4,000 students. To support the growing needs of the campus, expansion began in 2015. JJC has an anticipated completion in 2016. � e construction plan calls for additional space for academic programs and student development services to respond to this growth. � e new expansion will include additional computer labs, new biology, and anatomy and physiology labs.

Rasmussen College, as a regionally accredited college, o� ers programs de-signed to help you graduate in as little as 9, 12 or 18 months so you can start or advance your career quicker. The hub of community leisure time activities takes place at Village Park, which features the 55,000-square-foot Romeoville Recreation Center, four baseball diamonds (one lighted

baseball diamond), one lighted football field, lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, a picnic pavilion, horseshoe pits, a concession stand and an open recreational space.

The recreation center, recipient of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association’s 2002 Outstanding Facility of the Year Award and 2013 Exceptional Workplace Award, houses the 3,000-square-foot Fit-4-Life Fitness

Center, which overlooks beautiful Village Park. Fitness center amenities include state-of-the-art equipment, a free weight area, stretching area and locker rooms.
