erWhen she isn’t serving her client’s legal needsGilion Dumas pursues her voracious interest in books as the “Rose City Reader”-- which happens to be the name of her literary blog.

A compulsive “list” reader, Gilion is committed to working her way through several lists of prize winners and other “must read” books.  As a connoisseur of both fiction and non-fiction, Gilion has made a name for herself in Portland’s bookish culture.

Author Interviews

Audrey Brown

Liz Crain

Author interviews are a fun feature on Gilion’s book blog. She likes to ask authors about their latest books, as well as where they find their inspiration, how they write, and their own reading habits. She recently interviewed two Portland authors, getting candid answers to such questions as:

•What did you learn from writing your book that most surprised you?•How do you decide what book to read next?•What is the most valuable advice you’ve been given as an author?

Book Reviews

Gilion reviews fiction and non-fiction, including brand new books, classics, and everything in between. She is just as likely to review the latest Pulitzer Prize winner as she is an obscure memoir she found at a library book sale.

She excepts review copies, but please ask first.

Reading Challenges

Gilion hosts two reading challenges that tie in with her goal of reading all the winners of several literary prizes:

The Battle of the Prizes, American Version, asks participants to read one winner of the Pulitzer Prize, one National Book Award winner, and one book that won both.

In the Battle of the Prizes, British Version participants read one Booker Prize winner, one winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and one book that won both.

You do not have to have a book blog to sign up!
