A Rossmoyne Senior High

School education is a

blueprint for success.

Contents

A Rossmoyne education creates opportunities for students to flourish. It combines academic breadth and rigour with creativity, challenge and personal development. It is founded on a belief in the potential of every student to be a successful learner and a rounded citizen who desires to make a positive contribution to our local and global communities.

Rossmoyne provides an environment where high aspirations, excellence in all endeavours, and respect are everyday expectations. At Rossmoyne, academic achievement is valued as a key to a successful future. It provides the fundamental stepping stone for our students’ participation in tertiary education, vocational training and the world of work. Rossmoyne’s results reflect our commitment to providing a pathway for every student to enjoy success.

At Rossmoyne, we also believe that the School has a vital role in producing students with the skills to control their own lives and to make strong, well informed choices. We aim to develop the next generation of local and global leaders – young adults with the aptitudes and attitudes to engage confidently, ably and responsibly in different contexts; young adults who desire to contribute to a prosperous and safe future for all. This belief lies at the heart of Rossmoyne’s core values, pastoral care and co-curricular programs.

Rossmoyne’s campus provides the welcoming, cohesive and vibrant environment where learning and positive relationships grow and flourish. It reflects the wonderful

diversity of a global community within its student population and staff profile. Rossmoyne’s teachers and support staff have the expertise and commitment to deliver excellence in teaching and learning. Students are motivated and they delight in taking up the many opportunities available to them as learners. The School’s outlook is progressive while holding firmly to the traditional values of respect, hard work and self-discipline.

I am delighted that you are interested in getting to know Rossmoyne Senior High School and the exceptional opportunity the School provides for students.

Over 80 per cent of Rossmoyne Senior High School’s Year 12 students enrol for studies at leading universities. Other school leavers pursue further training, take up apprenticeships or enter the world of work.

Centre for ExcellenceRossmoyne Senior High School delivers Specialist Programs in:

• Mathematics Education (commencing 2012)• Classical Music Education• Gifted and Talented Education (Languages)• Volleyball

In addition, school-based academic extension and enrichment programs are delivered in English, Mathematics, Science, Society & Environment, and Computing.

• Rossmoyne Senior High School competes in the premier ‘A’ division of the public schools swimming and athletics competitions.

Pathways to Success through Excellence in Vocational Education and TrainingRossmoyne Senior High School’s vocational programs have established a reputation for excellence with training providers and employers. This is why Rossmoyne students are offered top-shelf apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience programs.

Our students are, increasingly, completing Certificate III and IV training qualifications while still at school. This fast tracks TAFE studies and opens up an alternative pathway for enrolment at university.

Excellence in all endeavours

As parents we wanted our children to be happy, to do their best, to have a well rounded education and to become good citizens. These aspirations and more have been fulfilled and we are enormously grateful to the superb staff and positive culture at Rossmoyne that have enabled our children to pursue academic, sporting, cultural and citizenship interests. Pastoral Care

A Caring Community At Rossmoyne Senior High School, we want all members of our school community to feel that they belong and are welcome. We want our students to enjoy a positive schooling experience. We want them to leave school with the capability and optimism to realise a preferred future and to lead personally fulfilling lives.

Pastoral care at Rossmoyne fosters trust, mutual respect, and concern for the health and well-being of oneself and each other.

Our holistic approach to student care is coordinated through the Student Services Centre. The centre is managed by a Head of Department. Each year group has a teacher coordinator who guides and supports students as they progress from Years 8 to 12.

A school psychologist assists students with their educational, emotional and social needs. The psychologist plays an important role in providing advice to teachers and parents about programs and strategies to support students.

The school has a full-time nurse appointed through the Department of Health. The nurse has a key role in promoting and educating students about healthy lifestyles and well-being. The nurse works from well-equipped rooms in the Student Services Centre.

The school chaplains are involved with local community and overseas volunteer service programs. The chaplains’ role is non-sectarian.

Our Form (‘tutorial’) program provides continuity of care. Small form classes of between 15 and 20 students enable form teachers monitor students’ progress and assist them with goal setting.

“While academic results have been very important as the girls pursue their goals, I have found the values of the school and the manner in which the staff embed those values in the students to be something that has had and will hold the girls in good stead in the future.” (Parent)

We promote a culture of service through local community projects and overseas development programs

Facilities The Rossmoyne Senior High School community is committed to providing students and staff with a physical environment where learning and teaching can thrive.

The School Master Plan outlines a staged redevelopment of Rossmoyne. The design brief is for the creation of a campus with a ‘university feel’, consistent with the aspirations and needs of our young adult learners and of our School community.

Existing facilities include dedicated learning area classrooms, a contemporary performing arts centre, library, gymnasium and solar heated swimming pool. A new Science building housing laboratories and tutorial rooms opened in 2007.

A $14 million capital works project that provides new English and Languages classrooms, a café, amphitheatre and extensions to the performing arts centre, is due for completion in December, 2011.

The School will be fully air-conditioned by July, 2013.

“I am really dreading the last day of Year 12 when I unfortunately have to say goodbye

and leave this amazingly wonderful school!”Shannon, Year 9

Shannon wrote this in her English essay. She had been in Western Australia for only 24 months,

arriving from South Africa. The quote typifies the friendships and bonds formed at Rossmoyne.
