Other Meeting Notes Fun at Bennie’s Red Barn Meeting

We enjoyed a little change as we went to Bennie’s Red Barn for our meeting last week. A little change in location

is always refreshing and here are a few photos from that lunch. We thank Bennie’s

for accommodating us at the last minute!

…it’s the same ol’ song… Did you notice that we have changed the patriotic

song? There are many verses to several patriotic songs that we have sung over the years and we should know

more about them. Watch the screen each week for the words so we can explore these wonderful verses.

Jennifer Broadus shared the great news that we are well ahead of our last year’s totals for dollar goals with over $24,000 committed by our sponsors for this year’s event including Nalley at $10,000, Marshes Edge at $5,000, Iguana’s at $2500 and several others pledging $1000 each. We have Mike Murphy to thank for rounding up a number of those sponsors. Last year we raised over $18,000 and this year’s goal of $30,000 is very likely to be realized thanks to the hard work from Jennifer Broadus and her team. ..speaking of hard work… Beth Smith is diligently working to collect items for the Silent Auction at the Meet the Pros. Please read what she is suggesting if you would like to donate or have someone donate a silent auction item or items. Wanted: your donations of rare, special, collectible finds that will bring interest and high bids to our Meet the Pros silent auction. We are hoping to procure items that we can preview in our ads and social media. For example, last year we had signed letters from the Apollo 11 flight. We discovered they were selling for $3000 on EBay two nights before the auction. The donor took the mike at the event to explain the importance of the letters which increased the number of bids. We need to get that word out of the significance of the items well before the auction. If you are not sure of your item’s worth or interest, check Ebay or a simple web search may shed some light. Please see Beth Smith with your ideas

THE LOREM IPSUMS SUMMER 2016

ROTARY SPRAY JUNE 25, 2017 PAGE 5

Out of great respect for each of you and your time, I want to let you know that I am seriously committed to ensuring that we honor that time with our weekly meetings. Consequently, effective immediately, we are going to institute the following procedures:

• As usual, our meeting will begin promptly at 1:00 pm and we will have the Pledge, Patriotic Song, Invocation and a moment of Humor. Our Sergeant-at-Arms will then handle Rotary Cares, Birthdays and Happy Dollars.

• Our President-Nominee will welcome our Guests. • We will forego Announcements, which will be published in the Spray. I know that your time is

valuable and that you will support our efforts by ensuring that you read those announcements and keep us from feeling the need to share them again in the meeting. If you forget to get your announcement in the Spray the current week, there is always the next issue.

• We will ensure that the Speaker is able to take the floor at no later than 1:20 pm. Speakers have until 1:45 pm and then 5 minutes for questions and answers. Our Program Chair will give the Speaker a 5-minute warning (at 1:40) and I will resume leadership of the meeting at 1:45 pm. The procedure will be shared politely with each speaker before the meeting.

• Finally, we will conclude the business of the Club at 1:50 pm with the 4 Way Test, which will leave us 10 minutes to greet one another and be on our way no later than 2:00 pm.

I understand that as the President and the one who presides at the meetings that a large part of making this work falls on my shoulders but you can help as well. And this is how:

• Be sure you keep up with the current news and announcements in the Spray, which comes to your home every week.

• When you have an announcement to share with the Club, please submit for publication in the Spray no later than the Saturday before the meeting. You can submit it to: [email protected]. If you do not want to actually write the announcement, just give Ann, our Editor, the facts and she will do an outstanding job of getting it into the Spray.

• Be respectful of our time crunch when you are sharing Happy Dollar news. There is another way you can help us with this effort. Please do all you can to stay in the meeting at least until the speaker is finished at 1:45 pm but preferable until the 4 Way Test at 1:50 pm. We certainly understand all of you who need to be back at your work as close to 2:00 pm as possible and we hope this will help to keep you from having to leave during the speaker’s presentation. We also understand that, occasionally, you will have an appointment that makes it necessary for you to leave early but if it is at all possible, we hope that you will respect our speakers and stay through their presentations. I am committed to making this work; our Program Chair is committed to making it work; our speakers are committed to making it work; I am confident that our Board will be committed to making it work; and I sincerely hope that you will be committed to making it work as well. With sincere appreciation for each of you and your invaluable contribution to the SSI Rotary Club, I remain Respectfully yours, Bob Brown, President
