pillars of excellence
Rowland Hall is a warm and welcoming place where
students want to be, teachers want to teach, and
everyone wants to learn. Here, students and teachers
alike feel free to take the risks that lead to growth.
There’s a method to the magic, a foundation for the
freedom. Strong core values guide this school. Four
pillars of excellence.
1a proud TradiTion
of excellence,
characTer, and service
Rowland Hall strives to graduate good citizens, not
just students well prepared for college. Concepts such
as character, service, ethics, and community matter
here. Mindful of poet John Donne’s words, we teach
that no student (or teacher) is an island. From the
earliest grades right through the senior year, we stress
the need to enrich the lives of others.
diversiTy of people
and ThoughT
Rowland Hall is a school, not an assembly line;
a catalyst, not a cookie cutter. In our quest to
educate global citizens, we welcome families from
diverse backgrounds and circumstances, different
cultures and religions. By exposing our students
to new people and new ideas, they learn to think,
question, and believe for themselves.
2
The leader in
pre-college excellence
Rowland Hall’s rigorous college preparatory program
prepares students to read well, think critically, and
write clearly. Teachers in every class at every level expect
their students to add their voice to the discussion. As
a result, our students are well prepared to excel at
whichever college proves to be the best fit. Just as
important, they’re launched on a lifetime of learning.
3
locally, naTionally,
and globally connecTed
Our students connect to the area, the nation, and
the world through our school-wide sustainability
initiative; through service learning (begun at PreK);
through the Internet (all Upper School students have
laptops); through class trips; and through visiting
speakers and artists from around the world. Good
connections spark insights, which, in turn, prepare
students to make a positive mark on the world.
