Following up on the success of the Royal Resorts in your Neighborhood tour of major

cities in the United States and Mexico, Royal Resorts recently organized a trip to the United Kingdom to meet with British members, their family and friends. The Stoke Park Hotel in Stoke Poges near Windsor was the perfect country house setting for a summer luncheon, complete with mariachis, on June 13. Around 40 Royal Resorts members and family joined Marketing and Sales Director Mark Carney O.B.E. and other company representatives for a very enjoyable afternoon and the latest news from their Mexican home.

the jaguar and the Yucatán’s other wild cats, the puma, ocelot, margay and jaguarundi. Our goal is to raise money for a conservation project to monitor wildlife populations and their movements with motion sensitive cameras and to protect areas of jungle under threat. vacation week and reschedule your trip later in the year? Use the ISCO Internal Exchange program. The new online system allows strings of matches, for example A with B, B with C, C with D, D with A, which gives you more possibilities than a one on one match. As more people enroll their units, the rate of successful matches will increase exponentially. You can also use the Instant Match option to see which members are interested in your interval and to check alternatives. No annual membership fee is required and the exchange fee is paid only when your exchange request is successfully matched. Royal Resorts has a new check in policy for nonmembers. When registering, guests will

be asked for a deposit of $10,500 pesos per week (the equivalent of $1,500 pesos a day) if they are staying in the villa. The deposit is $7,000 pesos for the suite ($1,000 pesos a day) and $3,500 pesos for the room ($500 pesos a day), respectively. The deposit can be made in Mexican pesos or dollars

Count the CrocodilesIf you are a nature lover, here’s a trip to interest you. How about helping a biologist count

crocodiles in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve? Thomas More Travel has teamed up with Amigos de Sian Ka’an, a Cancún-based NGO that has been studying populations of the Moreletti (Crocodylus moreletti) and marsh crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus) in the reserve for 15 years, to offer this fascinating new adventure. Protecting huge swathes of marsh and mangrove forest dotted with lagoons and brackish waterways, Sian Ka’an is the largest crocodile breeding range in Mexico, and Muyil Lagoon where the crocodile hunt takes place is thought to harbor at least 700 reptiles. Reflector lights are shone across the lagoon and surrounding reed beds to detect the reptiles by the red gleam of their eyes. Once a croc has been located, the chase is on to capture it before it heads for deeper waters and safety. After the biologist and trained local boatmen secure it, the crocodile will be muzzled, weighed, measured and tagged by removing a scale from its tail before returning it to the water. As tail scales do not grow back, this is a way to identify the creatures in the future. Many of the crocodiles encountered are yearlings and juveniles, but larger animals are often sighted and they can measure up to two and half meters in the area. The fishermen of Muyil work closely with Amigos de Sian Ka’an in the crocodile census and other conservation and community initiatives and by signing up for this trip, you will also be helping to improve their livelihoods. fish and despite their immense size, are filter feeders, feasting

on the plankton that blooms in the waters of the Mexican Caribbean

during the hottest months of the year. From June to September, around 200 of them congregate in the area between Holbox and Cabo Catoche and to the east of Contoy and Isla Mujeres, possibly the largest whale

shark gathering in the world. Whale sharks are great ocean

wanderers and scientists still do not know much

about their behavior and migration patterns. This

The crew is students completing the NAUTICED courses with Garth on board “MoonDance” on weekends and in their spare time. Summer VisitorsAruba may be the smallest of the ABC Islands, but

its southwest coast is a tourist favorite thanks to white sand beaches and aquamarine waters. Stirred by trade winds, the air is clean, dry and temperate, with a daily average of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. In Aruba, Eagle Beach, home to Costa Linda Beach Resort, is the sole nesting location for the Leatherback sea turtle. These last living descendants of an age before dinosaurs annually travel thousands of miles from the sea to lay their eggs on our beaches. From March to August, these endangered mammoth sea turtles perform the eons-old ritual as these magnificent creatures crawl slowly from the water onto the beach to deposit their eggs and return to sea.

The hatchlings instinctively return to the sea and at maturity, which is about 30 years, return to the island of their birth. It is essential to in no way disturb the ritual of the turtle and it is strictly forbidden to remove the eggs from their nests. Though the threats to a hatchling sea turtle are many, they have an ally on the shores of Aruba. Volunteers from Turtugaruba, along with owners and personnel at Costa Linda Beach Resort, work together to shield our shelled friends from the hazards of the modern world. Light pollution, coastal development, or simply the presence of unwanted company can keep a mother sea turtle from safely and securely nesting her eggs. The survival of sea turtles as a species is important for both land and sea ecosystems. Sea turtles keep sea grass at a manageable level for all the other creatures of the sea and on land, their nesting sites provide vital resources for marine life on the beach. Cancún Airline UpdateIn recent airline news British Airways announced that as of November 2010, it will be

offering two direct weekly flights to Cancún from the United Kingdom, departing from Gatwick, London’s second airport. Virgin America is also seeking governmental approval for two new routes to Cancún from San Francisco (three flights a week) and Los Angeles (five flights a week) respectively, starting in early 2011. Michigan residents seeking to escape the bitter cold this winter can take advantage of a new direct flight offered by Sun Country Airlines. As of December 22 and until May 1, this airline will be flying to Cancún from Lansing, Michigan four times a week. Frontier is also extending its winter season flights from Indianapolis to Cancún from Nov 6 to April 30, 2011. Recent news reports also noted that Hainan Airlines may soon be operating a flight from Beijing to Cancún via Mexico City. On August 24, Aeromexico will be inaugurating a flight from Mérida to Havana. This new air link to the Cuban capital will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Whale Shark FestivalFrom July 16 to 18, Isla Mujeres played host to the Second Whale Shark Festival.

Events included interesting lectures on whale shark behavior and migration, threats to whale shark populations, ecotourism and recent discoveries. For example, Mexican biologists revealed that they now know what attracts the world’s largest living fish to the Mexican Caribbean in such huge numbers – over 400 spotted one August day in 2009 – it is a combination of plankton blooms and fish roe - it appears that whale sharks are partial to bonito eggs!
