TOWNSHIPS PUBLISHED 1980, REPORT No. 190 OGS

THE GENERAL GEOLOGY OF THE AREA IS DESCRIBED BY CARTER AS EARLY PRECAMBRIAN ROCKS COMPRISING A SUITE OF SUBALKALIC AND ALKALIC METAVOLCANICS, INTERLAYERED MAFIC AND ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS AND CLASTIC AND CHEMICAL METASEDIMENTS. THE ABOVE SEQUENCES OF ROCKS HAVE BEEN INTRUDED BY GRANITIC ROCKS IN PLACES. NUMEROUS DIABASE DIKES CUT ALL OF THE ABOVE. MIDDLE PRECAMBRIAN ROCKS REST UNCONFORMABLY ON THE OLDER PRECAMBRIAN. CENOZOIC SEDIMENTS COMPRISE THE YOUNGEST ROCKS (SAND, GRAVEL, MUSKEG, ALLUVIUM).

IN THE AREA OF THE CLAIMS SURVEYED CARTER SHOWS (MAP 2414, 1973) A REPETITIVE SERIES OF FELSIC AND INTER MEDIATE SUBALKALIC METAVOLCANICS ON THE NORTH HALF OF THE PROPERTY. THE SOUTH HALF IS UNDERLAIN BY MAFIC METAVOLCANICSAND CARTER SHOWS AN OUTCROP OF 4E AN ALKALIC METAVOLCANIC OF INTERMEDIATE COMPOSITION HAWAIITE.

IN THE AREA (NORTHEAST QUADRANT) OF THE KIDD CREEK DRILL HOLES A REPETITIVE SERIES OF INTERMEDIATE LAPILLI TUFFS AND GRAPHITIC ARGILLJTES WERE ENCOUNTERED CUT BY A MAFIC DYKE. SAMPLES COLLECTED FROM THE GRID BY THE AUTHOR CONSIST OF ALTERED DACITES, ANDESITES AND ARKOSES.

7MAG SURVEY - GEOPHYSICS GENERAL

A WALK LINE WAS CUT AND CHAINED 2800' SOUTH FROM THE SHORE OF OKAWAKENDA LAKE. THIS WAS TO ESTABLISH A 0+0 POINT. A BASELINE AT 282" AZIMUTH WAS THEN ESTABLISHED AND CUT ANDi.CHAINED EAST 475 FEET TO CLAIM LINE AND WEST 1200 FEET. PICKET LINES WERE CUT AT O, 3W, 6W, 9W AND 12W. THE PICKET LINES WERE EXTENDED OUT TO THE CLAIM LINES AND THEN CHAINED. STATIONS WERE ESTABLISHED EVERY 100 FEET. READINGS WERE TAKEN EVERY 50 FEET. INSTRUMENTATION 8 PARAMETERS

THE INSTRUMENT AND PARAMETERS USED FOR THE MAGNETO METER SURVEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:

SURVEY INSTRUMENT: GEOMETRICS G816/826TYPE PROTON PRECISION MAGNETOMETERACCURACY: +/- l GAMMA*

MAG GENERALA MAGNETOMETER SURVEY MEASURES THE MAGNITUDE OF THE

EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD IN A VERTICAL PLANE (TOTAL FIELD INTENSITY). THE TOTAL FIELD INTENSITY is NOT PERFECTLY SYMMETRIC ABOUT THE EARTH, BUT VARIES DUE TO NUMEROUS DISCONTINUITIES, THE MOST RELEVANT FOR THE PURPOSES OF MINERAL EXPLORATION BEING THE ANOMALOUS SET OF FEATURES CAUSED BY LOCAL VARIATIONS IN THE MAGNETIC MINERALS OR OTHER FEATURES OF INTEREST WHICH DISTORT THE LOCAL MAGNETIC FIELD.

AS WELL AS SPATIAL VARIATIONS IN THE EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD, THERE ARE VARIATIONS WITH RESPECT TO TIME. THESE DAILY OR DIURNAL VARIATIONS OCCUR PRIMARILY DURING THELOCAL DAYLIGHT HOURS AND ARE OF AN UNPREDICTABLE NATURE. IN

ORDER TO CORRECT FOR THESE VARIATIONS, A BASE STATION IS ESTABLISHED WITH READINGS TAKEN AT REGULAR INTERVALS (SECONDS TO MINUTES) TO BE USED TO ESTABLISH A BASE VALUE. ADDITIONS OR SUBTRACTIONS ARE CALCULATED TO MAINTAIN THE BASE VALUE AND THESE ARE APPLIED TO THE SURVEY DATA TO PROVIDE A CONSTANTLEVEL.

RESULTS265 READINGS WERE RECORDED ON 13,000' OF PICKET

LINE AND BASELINE. THE MAGNETOMETER READINGS RECORDED AND

ADJUSTED FOR DIURNAL EFFECT DURING THE SURVEY REVEALED A NUMBER OF ANOMALOUS HIGHS (ABOVE BACKGROUND) WITH ONLY SEVERAL SMALL LOWS.

MAGNETIC VALUES RANGED FROM 54,300 TO 60,779, A VARIANCE OF 6,479 GAMMAS.

OF 17 ROCK SAMPLES FROM OUTCROP COLLECTED DURING THE LINECUTTING, 5 WERE MAGNETIC (2 STRONGLY). CONTOURING OF THE MAGNETIC DATA CONFIRMS THE STRIKE OF THE ROCK UNITS AS BEING APPROXIMATELY N 57" W WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE STRIKE OF THE SOUTHERN MOST AIRBORNE CONDUCTOR AT N 63"W. CONCLUSIONS

THE MAGNETIC DATA PARTIALLY CONFIRMS THE STRIKE OF CARTER'S GEOLOGICAL UNITS. THE SURVEY REFLECTS AND DEFINES THE KNOWN LITHOLOGIES TO SOME DEGREE. THE HIGHER MAGNETIC READINGS IN THE SOUTH AREA OF THE GRID COINCIDE WITH THE MAFIC UNITS ON CARTER'S GEOLOGY MAP WHEREAS THE NORTHERN PORTION IS CHARACTERIZED BY MODERATELY UNIFORM VALUES (57,400 - 58,100 GAMMAS) IN AREAS INTERPRETED AND LOGGED AS BEING UNDERLAIN BY CLASTIC METASEDIMENTS AND GRAPHITIC ARGILLITES. RECOMMENDATIONS

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE GRID BE EXTENDED TO 15-W. THAT A HL-EM SURVEY BE CARRIED OUT TO LOCATE THESOUTHERN MOST AIRBORNE CONDUCTOR AS INDICATED ON MAP SHEET

81426 OF THE 1990 MNDM SURVEY FLIGHT LINES 723 N AND 724/2N.IT IS FURTHER RECOMMENDED THAT GEOLOGICAL MAPPING BE CARRIED

OUT OVER THE PROPERTY WITH GRID LINES FOR REFERENCE. THAT

SEVERAL IN-FILL LINES BE CUT ON THE SOUTH PART OF THE GRID

AT STATIONS 4 * 50 W AND 7 * 50 W AND SURVEYED BY MAGNETO

METER TO FURTHER DEFINE THE MAFIC ROCK UNITS AND/OR ELIMINATE

ANY POSSIBILITY OF THE MAGNETIC HIGHS BEING RELATED TO DIA

BASE DYKES.
