I have met so many fabulous people; giving, generous and hard-working. In my first two months, I have been very busy learning everything I can inhale regard- ing the people I work with, our gracious volunteers, our busy stations and all of our friends at Family Service. Everyone has been so accepting of the changes coming about in RSVP. I hope to meet everyone’s expectations and will do my best to ensure the continued success of our valuable RSVP program in Champaign, Douglas and Piatt counties. Welcome Spring! Please plan to attend as your schedule allows so that we can celebrate the wonderful service that you give as an RSVP member! We’ll provide ham, bread and condiments. Movie Day/Monday, April 13, 1pm Take a break from your volunteer activities and have some laughs while viewing the 1993 movie “Grumpy Old Men” with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. We’ll provide the popcorn. Bring a friend! Breakfast of Champions! Thursday, April 16, 8-10am ey say it’s the most important meal of the day, so drop by anytime during the breakfast hours on the way to your volunteer activities to enjoy some pancakes, pastries, fruit, juice and coffee with other RSVP members and the staff. Bingo / Thursday, April 16, 1-2pm Our friends from Paxton Health and Rehabilitation will be sponsoring Bingo. Lots of chances to win nice prizes. Bring a friend! Ice Cream Social / Friday, April 17, 1-3pm Let’s get together to enjoy some fellowship and ice cream. We’ll have toppings galore to personalize your scoops or maybe you’d like your ice cream on a slice of warm fruit pie. NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK (APRIL 13-17, 2015) AARP TAX-AIDE – 2015 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are here at RSVP/ Stevick Senior Center if you need assistance with tax preparation. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9am-4pm; Tuesday 12:30-4pm; and Saturday 9am-noon. Souper Bowl CelebrationHelps Fight Hunger inOur Community In honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we joined other RSVP programs throughout the state by having a “Souper Bowl Celebration”. People were asked to donate canned soup, chili, and crack-

April 12-18 is National Volunteer Week and Family Service will be celebrating 50 years of Meals on Wheels as we honor our volunteers. Meals on Wheels began in May 1965 when Church Women United started delivering meals made by the Illini Union to twelve people. Today, 300+ volunteers deliver almost 21,000 meals!

Thanks to all our RSVP volunteers who help us: • Feed older adults by delivering meals • Drive older adults to the doctor, grocery store, pharmacy, or bank • Help us communicate and connect with the public with our bulk mailings • Assist with office and reception work • Serve on our Board of Directors • Serve on one of our Advisory Councils • Call volunteers to coordinate rides for Senior Transportation

rsVP Volunteer Has a BIg Heart YChris Noffsinger is an RSVP volunteer as a receptionist at the Helen Stevick Senior Center every week. She had a great idea to include a little Valentine surprise for the clients receiving

groceries for the Food for Seniors program. Eastern Illinois Food Bank (an RSVP partner) pro-vided the candy and Chris (left) not only donated her time, but also the materials to create these special gifts–they were placed in the grocery bags on the February 10th delivery. Thanks Chris for

your dedication to RSVP and our community.Y!

Once collected, these items were taken to the East-ern Illinois Food Bank (EIFB) for distribution within the community. Thank you to all who took part in our “Souper Bowl Celebration”!

Stevick Center ReceptionistWould you like to work with some really awesome folks? There is an immediate need for a Receptionist at Stevick Senior Center/RSVP offices! Debbie needs at least two volunteers to fill open shifts on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (noon-4pm). This can be a weekly (preferred) or bi-monthly commitment. Substitute receptionists are also needed. Tasks include greeting visitors, answering phones and helping with special events at the Stevick Senior Center. Permit provided for free parking during shift. Contact Debbie at 359-6500 for more information.

Who Needs To Lift WeightsWhen You Can....Deliver bags of groceries to low-income seniors in Cham-paign and Urbana on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday morning each month. Food for Seniors is looking for Permanent Drivers, Substitute Drivers and Driver Assistants. If requested, mile-age reimbursement is available. Call Robbie at 359-6500.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and ReStoreHabitat for Humanity ReStore has a new boutique, and Amy is seeking friendly and positive volunteers to serve as Shop Assistants. The boutique will feature small items such as pottery, dishes, collectibles, books, jewelry, etc. Duties include stocking inventory, sorting and tagging merchandise and assisting customers as needed. No heavy lifting involved. Shifts available Tuesday thru Saturday 11:00am-3:00pm. Let Jennifer know you are interested by calling 359-6500.

Learning Is A Lifelong ProcessUrbana Adult Education is looking for someone who would like to share that passion for learning! Volunteers are needed as Tutors, Instructor Assistants and Office/Clerical Support. Volunteer hours available are Monday-Thursday 8:45am-noon and 12:45-4:00pm; Tuesday/Thursday 5:00-8:00pm. Do you have an hour or more to give? Donna Clark would love to hear from you! Contact her at 384-3530.

Serve The Shield of HopeSalvation Army of Champaign County is in need of an Office Assistant to answer phones, greet visitors and provide clerical support. Must be able to interact professionally with staff and general public. Training is provided. Shifts are flexible and are available Monday through Friday 1:00-5:00pm. If you can help, please call Melanie Hertel at 373-7832, ext. 13.
