� Starting with z/OS V1R6, IBM has aligned the coexis tence, fallback, and migration policy with the service policy� z/OS V1R7, z/OS V1R8, and z/OS V1R9 are supported fo r coexistence, fallback, and

� The z/OS Communications Server allows IPSecprocessing to take advantage of zIIPs

– This zIIP Assisted IPSec function moves much of the z/OS IPSec processing from the general purpose processors to the zIIPs.

• In addition to performing the encryption processing, the zIIP will also handle cryptographic validation of message integrity, and IPSec header processing.

• Specifically, the z/OS Communication Server (z/OS CS) is designed to interact with z/OS Workload Manager to have all of its IPSec enclave Service Request Block (SRB) work made eligible to run on the zIIP.

• May be useful in scenarios where different LPARs within the same sysplex need to be isolated into different security zones

– New LDAP server for z/OS, IBM Tivoli Directory Server for z/OS , designed to have stronger affinity toward sysplex (and allow a sysplex group to replicate with other LDAP server )

– Dynamic registration and deregistration of Domain Name Server (DNS) based on server/ host availability

– The sysplex autonomics function is enhanced to help monitor network interfaces and designed to invoke recovery in the event of an interface failure.

– z/OS UNIX System Services (z/OS UNIX) byte range lock manager (BRLM) is enhanced (locks can be replicated and recovered) to help improve availability for applications that use BRLM

– Improved CF Recovery time– Improved CFRM. These enhancements can enhance sysplex availability by significantly reducing

I/O contention for CFRM couple data sets (CDS) – The single master console is eliminated, and therefore it no longer can act as a single point of

failure

– Improved Couple data set I/O performance and throughput – any system that has significant I/O to Couple data sets will benefit from parallelism in XCF Couple data set access channel programs

– SFM (Sysplex Failure Manager for z/OS) improved wit h more automatic identification, removal, and even termination of troubled systems in a sysplex

– RMF support for CF utilization for improved CF performance monitoring

� Improved Consoles processing with Message Flood Aut omation (1.9)– Policy driven automation for dealing with large amounts of messages

• Can be set in PARMLIB (function was made available via APAR OA17514 for z/OS 1.6 and higher)

– Helps prevent the flood messages from being displayed on a console, from being logged in the SYSLOG or OPERLOG, from being queued for automation, from propagating to other systems in a sysplex, from being queued to the Action Message Retention Facility (AMRF)

– Helps take action against the address space issuing the flood messages, by issuing a command (typically a CANCEL command)

distance to be extended to 100 km without an intermediate (External time Reference (ETR) – 9037) site.

• May help simplify configuration and reduce cost by eliminating the external Sysplex Timer® and by consolidating the currently-separate timer links with coupling links (ISC, ICB).

• STP support planned to be compatible with ETR support.
