The Queensland Callers Association is organising its quarterly meeting to be held in Bundaberg on November 22nd 2014

at the Coronation Hall, Cnr High & Targo Streets.

The hosts for the event will be the Cane Country Squares. This meeting will be held on the same weekend as the

Queensland Square Dancing Society Inc. Annual Christmas Dance.

Bugle Dates for the Holiday Period

As production of the Bugle for 2014 ceases with this issue, the Executive of the Society would like to say a big THANK-YOU to everyone who has contributed to the Bugle in any way this year.

The first issue of the Bugle for 2015 will be a combined Janu-ary / February edition. All material will need to be submitted to the Bugle Co-Ordinator by the 25th January 2015.

Bugle Submissions Reminder

A small reminder to all contributors - please submit your items on or before the 25th of the month. The Bugle in constructed as ads and articles arrive and finalized on the 26th ready for proof-reading and publication. If your article arrives after the 25th, it may not be included.

Please restrict the size of your advertisements so that they can be fitted on the top or bottom half of the page (A5). If full-page advertisements are submitted, they may have to be reduced (or squished) to fit into available space.





SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP REMINDER

Have you forgotten to pay your membership for the coming year with the Society. Member-ships were due on the 30

th June, and it only costs $10.00 per year, but there is still time to

pay. Just remember that you are not covered by insurance if you have not paid. If you were not already a member why not consider joining and getting the benefits of mem-bership. Concession at all big dances run by the Society and insurance cover to and from the dances you attend. Please remember that

membership runs from 1st July to 30

th June each year.

From the President

In May this year, our first Society General Meeting held under our new Executive drew an amazing crowd of around 60 dancers and Callers. With such great numbers, there was some robust discussion on many different topics affecting our dancers and different aspects of our activity. The topic of integrating newer dancers onto our dance floors within our clubs and at larger dances created a flurry of discussion. While recognising that every Caller, Club and Dancer approaches this issue in different ways, some very valid points were made by both experienced dancers and newer dancers in attendance. While we know there is no “right or wrong” answer to this debate, one word became apparent at this meeting - TOLERANCE. I have given this word, TOLERANCE and its associated attributes a lot of thought during this year. I do believe that we need to apply this to everything that we do within Square Dancing. We are fortunate enough to be involved in a wonderful activity, full of fun, happiness, friendship and laughter - let’s try and keep it that way.

Cane Country Squares

For all who travelled to Rockhampton to join in the celebrations of Rocky Twirlers Anniversary weekend, it was a great weekend of fun and friend-ship.

Caller Nev McLachlan once again provided a busy weekend of Square Dancing on 25/26th October as guest of our Club with some challenging choreography for Basics and Mainstream, Plus and Advanced Dancing and Bev left us with something new to think about in Round Dancing after her workshop. Thanks to both of you.

We are hoping to have the company of many of you for the Society Christ-mas Dance hosted by Cane Country Squares in Bundaberg on 22nd No-vember. See the dancing times in our flyer in this Bugle. Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas however you choose to spend the holidays. Come back refreshed and ready for another year of dancing and friendship.

What has the Society Been Doing Recently ?

We have been working hard on the Society Website. While it is still a work in progress and we have a long way to go, it does contain a lot of information about the Society. The Constitution in now availa-ble on the Website along with the “Red Book”.

Over recent months we have added past issues of the Bugle. We have been able to access nearly every issue including the inaugural issue from 2005. A huge thank-you to Dianne Maccoll who provided many of the earlier editions for us to scan.

HERVEY BAY SQUARE DANCE CLUB

Hi everyone from the Bay.

Five of us enjoyed the 34th Qld Convention very much. The atmosphere was there, Qld callers excelled themselves once again, halls worked well, plenty of parking and everyone was in that jovial mood that vibrates around the hall at these big dances. It was lovely to see Graham and Dawn Elliot, Graham sure is a showman with style, and Charmaine and Graham Jameson who travelled from Victoria. We love you both. One of our dancers has just come back to square dancing after 25+ years and she had a great time. Another wasn't well and una-ble to dance but she just loved the atmosphere of fun and friendship. And the social. What a great way to end the weekend!. Elaine Davis did a terrific job entertaining everyone and the mixed dancing was fun. I think I had better learn some line dancing now so I can join with Rob and Co on the floor. The dinner was a treat too and much appreciated. Congratulations to all the organizers, a job well done.

We are looking forward to hosting Alan Evans on 8th Nov. Theme is "Back to the 50's Rock & Roll". Please join us if you are up this way. Plus at 2pm and Mainstream at 7pm. Maryborough's Xmas dance with David Smythe will be fun on 6th Dec and then Hervey Bay are having their Christmas Dinner on our usual club night, 10th Dec. On 13th Dec it will be our big Christmas celebration when Sid Leighton comes to the Bay. Our usual Plus at 2pm and at 7pm all the Christmas dancing fun will start. SUNCOASTERS SQUARE DANCE CLUB

On the last weekend in September, several members of Suncoasters attended the Queensland State Convention at Cleveland, Brisbane and we all greatly enjoyed the great dancing, the many different call-ers and the company of all the members from other clubs. Many people put in a splendid effort to make the weekend so enjoyable and we do appreciate these efforts. We are now looking forward to another weekend away at the end of October at the Shindig on the Mountain at Mothar Mountain Hall, Gympie run by Gary Petersen. This promises to be another really fun weekend as it has been in past years. Planning is well under way for the 2016 National Square Dancing Convention to be held here at Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.




Rambling Eights – Caller: David Pearce On 17

th October our hall was not available for our usual Friday night dance, so we planned

a visit to Alan’s Allemanders. Fourteen of Rambling Eights regular dancers turned up to surprise those dancers at Logan, but when we saw the supper laid out it looked like they might have been expecting a larger crowd than normal. The calling was great, with four sets on the floor for mainstream and two sets for plus, and there was a party atmosphere that put an extra spring in our steps. Thank you to all Alan, Jane and Allemanders for the wonderful reception we received. With Christmas and the end of our dancing year approaching fast, plans are in hand for our final dances and outings. October 31 is our “Happy Halloween” dance when all manner of creative outfits are expected, as well as some interesting supper items. A few of our club members are looking forward to the Society Christmas Party hosted by Cane Country Squares in Bundaberg. Travel and accommodation plans are being finalised with some disappointed that they are unable to join in the fun due to prior commitments. The next event on the calendar is our club outing to a performance of Calamity Jane by the Beenleigh Theatre Players combined with dinner at “Fitzies Tavern”, a short drive away. Make sure you have transport arrangements correct as you don’t want to be late for this one. The following week is our last dance for 2014 on December 5, so many of our dancers will be free to go to other clubs as it suits them for the remainder of the year. We wish a very merry Christmas to all our friends in dancing and hope to catch up with many over the festive season.




PINE RIVERS SENIOR CITIZENS

It's that time of year again when we look forward to a break. It has been a year of a lot of ill health for our dancers and quite a few times we have only had the 2 squares. What a difference it makes when we get the 3 squares plus.

We are looking forward to a BIG dance on Saturday 29th November. This will be our FINAL 5th Saturday dance and we would love to see as many as possible.

Our last club dance for the year will be on Tuesday 2nd December and our first for 2015 will be Tuesday 27th January.

BUNDY BUS - SOCIETY CHRISTMAS PARTY Well the plans are all in place. The bus is booked and so is the accommodation. Saturday night's meal is also booked in and con-firmed. Now all that is needed is a bit of fine tuning on pickup times and all will be in readiness for a fun trip to Bundaberg for the Socie-ty Christmas Party on the 22nd of November. 50 + Centre Square Dance Club

TAIGUM TWIRLERS - SPRING FLING

On Saturday 18th October, Taigum Twirlers celebrated Spring with a combined dance. Our afternoon dancers had their session from 3.00pm to 5.00pm and many stayed on for tea and then danced with the Club from 7.00pm. We had five sets dance the night away with some games thrown in as well. Have you ever tried to dance holding on to a broom or a feather duster or a bucket or sponge or a dustpan and brush. Some dancers even had on rubber gloves. The idea was not to drop anything or you were out. There were five winning sets as nothing was dropped. lt was really good to see everyone having so much fun. A big welcome to Russell Wall who joined us on the night. We farewelled Neil Forster and wished him good luck as he travelled to Melbourne to compete in the Special Olympics 2014 National Games. Cairns City Square Dance Club

It has been a quieter month for members and numbers have been down. In fact we can-celled one Friday night due to all our music programmers being away. Ron and Beryl were visiting family in Weipa, Ian and Jenny had family visiting from Canada and Diann and Hen-ry were to be on a cruise to New Zealand. However due to the cruise being cancelled at the last moment when they reached Brisbane they had to enjoy the scenery from their balcony at home. Previous members Hilda and Tom had to cancel this cruise earlier due to ill health.

Our visitors for the month were Joyce Watts and Bevan Titmarsh from Capricorn Waves Rockhampton and Sue Mackley from Beenliegh. It is always enjoyable to have visitors dance with us. Some members continue to dance at Ulysses Club and UCA and this helps to boost their numbers as well. Plus nights continue once a month with enough of our members and Ulysses members. It is planned that 4 members will start learning Plus moves next year. This Friday night is our Pizza night and it is always a good night and well attended.

We will be introducing Round Dance sessions to our Super Saturday dance programme at Taigum Twirlers next year. Classes will be held in our new venue at Clontarf. Dates and session times will be advertised early next year.

adding that extra bit of fun and games.

Thanks to Sheila who decorated the halls, Mary who made the tasty

pumpkin pies, and the dancers who spooked us all out.

Christmas Party-time is an open invitation to Cloggers to visit other

Clubs, where possible, and do the socialising which is so much an im-

portant part of dancing.

Circulate your dates by poster, email or word of mouth. Many Clubs

also include dancers’ family and friends so they can see what Clogging

is all about and maybe take up this great, health, happy activity.

It has been suggested that your Club’s 2015 start-up date be included.
