Dear Church Family

I want to share with you some thoughts from God’s Word. In Ezekiel 5:5 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.” The people of God were placed in the center of the world to be a light to the nations. To reveal God to the world around them, to attract people to Himself. We likewise are placed where we are for the same purpose. To reveal Christ to the world around us. God places each of us in strategic places to make a difference for His Kingdom. When we are obedient to God, He uses us to impact our surroundings for His glory. The Israelites didn’t allow God to use them the way He wanted, Ezekiel 5:6 “Yet in her wickedness she has rebelled against my laws and decrees more than the nations and countries around her. She has rejected my laws and has not followed my decrees.” Don’t miss out like the Israelites did. Allow God to use you right where you are so He can impact your surroundings for Him.

DC Talk is one of my favorite bands of all time. They have had many great songs with even greater

meanings! “In The Light” is one of my favorites and it couldn’t be more relevant for our teens. The

chorus rings true for all who will listen:“I wanna be in the light as you are in the light. I wanna shine like

the stars in the heavens. Oh, lord be my light and be my salvation cause all I want is to be in the light.”

This past Wednesday, we looked at the portion of the “Sermon on the Mount” where Jesus instructed us to

let our light shine before men that they may glorify Him. The only way for us to let our light shine is to be

truly in the Light ourselves! It takes a lot of work to stay focused on God and His work in our lives…

especially at school! There are many avenues that teens can take to help keep them focused on God:

Join FCA or other Christian groups on campus. Students at Richland meet for prayer around the

flagpole every morning at 7:40 and Waynesville students meet at 7:10.

Go to church…not just on Sunday morning. We offer youth programs on Sunday Morning

(Fuel, Fuel Ignited), Sunday night (AWANA), Wednesday after school (Aftershock), and Wednesday

evening (Crossfire).

Daily Devotions!!!

And above all, standing up for your beliefs at school.

Upcoming Events Friday, September 02-Pregame giveaway before the home football game, 6-7pm

Friday, September 09-Renew for 6th-8th grade students at the Morrison house, 6-9pm

Saturday, September 10-Recharge for 9th-12th grade students, location TBD, 6-10pm

Friday, September 23-Friday Night Lights, after the home football game „til 11:30pm

School has started! Our verse for the preschool is “…we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His Power, and the wonders He has done.” Psalm 78:4. And we praise the Lord for all the wonderful children He has blessed us with so that we can teach them.

The children and teachers have spent the past couple of weeks getting to know each other and learning new routines. They have also been learning about the colors red and blue, circles, numbers 1 and 2, and the letters A & B. One of the verses being learned right now is Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. We have even had a couple classes take field trips to the park already this year!

We are truly looking forward to a great year with these children and their families. This Preschool is possible because our

church members saw the vision and allowed it to happen; I would love to take the time to show you around if you would

like to stop down here one day and see all that goes on. It is truly amazing the way the Lord’s love is shown to these

children and their families because of you! Thank you and have a wonderful September!

TeamKid Harvest! Wow...that sounds great! School has already begun, the mornings are getting cooler, and there is dew on the ground when we go outside. This little change in the weather tells me that Fall is almost here and it will be

time for the harvest to begin. As you read in John 4:34-37 Jesus said the fruits had already ripened and harvest had

already begun. Not only was that true then, it is true now. I was reminded of this as I sat and watched several of our

TeamKids, some with their parents, being baptized over the last few weeks. It sent a shiver down my spine and my arms, as my heart swelled with joy as I felt God’s presence and His love for each one of them. They have accepted the eternal

life that our Father wants to give to each one of us. I thought back to the summer and all the questions the kids asked

about God and Jesus, trying to connect it all in their minds. Then I thought of the leaders who took time to plant those

tiny seeds as they answered each child’s questions. God is so good...ALL the time!

Just as God has brought the harvest of salvation, he had also brought the harvest of volunteers for the Fall session of TeamKid. Praise the Lord, for He is good!

This summer TeamKid averaged between 35-40 kids. We played Putt Putt Golf, went on a hike at Waynesville Park, participated in a Read-a-thon, and ended the summer with a swim party at Tiger Typhoon with our friends and family.

Conratulations! Jessica Dwyer is the winner of the Summer Read-a-thon! Way to go, Jessica!

Serving Him Always,

Vickie & Angela

God is truly blessing this church, and our family is excited to be a part of the ministry here. Thank

you for your support and hospitality. You have helped make our transition an easy one. The Young

Adult Ministry and Music Ministry at Westside are areas of great opportunity, but I cannot do it alone.

Look for ways to get involved. Also, find a LifeGroup and get plugged in. At any church, it is easy to

feel disconnected if you only come to a Sunday morning service. LifeGroups are a great place to

meet people and invite your friends. Finally, be in prayer that God will lead in the direction he wants

these ministries to go.

In Christ,
