Pastor’s Corner November 24, 2019 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of The Universe

This will be our 34th week in ordinary time and we celebrate (The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe). “Christ the King Sunday celebrates the full authority of Christ as King and Lord of the universe. It is a reminder that the Son of God who humbled

himself by becoming human and dying on the cross is King of King and Lord of Lords for all eternity.”

Next Sunday we begin the season of Advent, (Latin- Ad-venio, to come). Advent 2019 begins Sunday December 1st and continues through Tuesday December 24th. It is a wonderful idea to make use of the opportunity to attend one of our up-coming Reconciliation services (See future Bulletin). This is leading me into what I will now say about The God given gift of our Catholic Church and the gift of The Sacrament of Reconciliation. We know that we have 7 Sacraments, Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, Confession, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the sick. We read in our Catechism of the Catholic Church;

1440 Sin is before all else an offense against God, a rupture of communion with him. At the same time it damages communion with the Church. For this reason conversion entails both God's forgiveness and reconciliation with the Church, which are ex- pressed and accomplished liturgically by the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. 1441 Only God forgives sins. Since he is the Son of God, Jesus says of himself, “The Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” and exercises this divine power: “Your sins are forgiven.” 40 Further, by virtue of his divine authority he gives this power to men to exercise in his name. 1442 Christ has willed that in her prayer and life and action his whole Church should be the sign and instrument of the forgiveness and reconciliation that he acquired for us at the price of his blood.

But he entrusted the exercise of the power of absolution to the apostolic ministry which he charged with the “ministry of reconciliation.” With my last word’s I want to remind you that The Sacrament of Reconciliation, (The Sacrament of Restoration) is a gift, not a punishment. It is basically between you and God, I am merely the “tour guide”. I remind you of the Love that God has for you, I give you a “philosophical” approach on how to think about your sin, and I give you a Penance in order that your relationship with our Trinitarian God may be restored. He never abandons us; it is we who by our sins push God out of our lives. I encourage you to let Him back in, fully. Take advantage of this gift, The Sacrament of Reconciliation. Peace be with you always, Fr. John W. Martin.

I need a Catechist for the Little Lambs (3-4 year olds)

I need a volunteer to help in the Formation Office on Sundays during Family Formation, 9:15-10:45 am. Responsibilities would include taking payments for Formation Fees, taking messages, etc.

Please call Kim at the Church office if you can help

Shepherd’s Storehouse Angel Tree

If you would like to sponsor a child in need for Christmas, stop by the church office and select your “angel”. Gifts are to be returned to the Shepherd’s Storehouse on Hwy. 377, Pilot Point, no later than Friday Dec. 13th. This is very important to insure success of the program. The Storehouse hours are: 8:30am –12pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Thank you again for sponsoring an Angel this Christmas. Your generosity makes this program a success each year.
