BPW Swing V-Tech suspension designoffers unprecedented levels of self-damping via the use of fourrubber elements specially developed for their load supporting andnatural hysteresis properties.

The operation of the self-steering feature constantly controls the influence of side wind effects, significantly reduces swaying and widens the safety margin should a sudden or emergency situation occur. In turning manoeuvres the outer wheel will tow-in at a negative camber whilst the inner wheel will tow-out with a positive camber. This gives improved cornering ability by allowing increased tyre tread contact on all wheels and minimising body roll.

V-Tech design also has the effect of moving the touring caravan roll centre axis closer to its centre of gravity which further improves stability by reducing body roll.

Side winds, uneven road surfaces or sudden evasive manoeuvres are hazards often experienced when towing a caravan. They can destabilise the caravan and lead to snaking, and a possible jack-knife. The iDC (Intelligent Drive Control) from BPW has been designed to sense lateral motion of the caravan and take correctional action - before things get out-of-hand.

The iDC is activated by means of a function test, whic h is immediately launched as soon as the electrical connection is established between the towing vehicle and the trailer. A status display on the drawbar indicates that the system is ful ly functional.
