ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAMEWelcome to our worship service. We are honored by your presence and count it a blessing to share this time together. May the warmth and acceptance of Christ’s love surround you this, and every day.

Organ Prelude

Welcome Andy Morgan

Choral Prelude Crown Him Lord of All, Chancel Choir

Call to WorshipLeader: God loves us.All: How much more might we love God, ourselves, and

others?Leader: God forgives us.All: How much more might we extend mercy and

forgiveness to ourselves and others?Leader: God calls us to worship. All: How much more might we give of ourselves to honor

God, who loves and forgives us? Opening Prayer David NoelLeader: Holy One, you extend your love and mercy into the world through Christ and, by our Holy Spirit, calling and equipping your Church to be agents of that love and mercy. As we enter into worship this day, we ask that you open our hearts to ask how much more might we do in our world to make your love known in our world. Amen.

*Hymn No. 56 To God Be the Glory

Prayer of Illumination All: God of life, by the power of your Spirit come to us now. Make our hearts receptive to your Word. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hebrew Bible Reading Psalm 79:1-9, p. 455 David Noel

Choral Call to Confession Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, Chancel Choir

Prayer of Confession

We confess that, in many ways, we are reluctant to be reckless in our willingness to forgive and extend grace. We wait for an apology to forgive. We wait until the time is right to extend mercy. We fail to see that forgiveness and mercy, no matter the motivation, open windows that allow us and others to see your grace. Help us see your grace. Help us to be as reckless in our love, mercy, and forgiveness as You are with us. Call to Confession Leader: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sin, God who is faithful washes us clean. With one heart and voice, let us pray.

Silent Prayer of Confession

Assurance of God’s ForgivenessLeader: Beloved, the mercy of God is from everlasting to everlasting. Nothing you have done, nothing you will ever do is enough to separate you from the love of God made known in Jesus Christ. I declare to you in the name of the risen Christ that our sins are forgiven and we are capable of forgiving ourselves and others.

*Response Sung by CongregationGlory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*Hymn No. 139 Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Ritual of Friendship David Noel

GIVE THANKS TO GOD

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy

kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offertory *Doxology Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow

The Celebration Hymnal, p. 815

*Affirmation of Faith (from A Brief Statement of Faith)In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GO IN GOD’S NAME – BEGINNING OF MISSION*Passing of the Peace Leader: As Jesus offered himself to secure our peace with God, let us share that peace with one another. The peace of Christ be with you.People: And Also with You. (Exchange Signs of Reconciliation and the Peace of Christ with your neighbor - e.g., “The Peace of Christ be with you.” Response - “And also with you.”)
