Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!

Thanks for joining our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are blessed through

your presence and prayerful participation. May this gathering in faith lift your spirit and bless you with peace. Happy Labor Day Weekend! Hope you enjoy this little break to relax and rest up for a very busy September. Check out today’s bulletin for what’s happening and know that you are always welcome to be part of Parish events. Your participation enriches our Parish community. In today’s First Reading, the Prophet Isaiah foresees the coming of the one who saves us. The one who saves us will open the eyes of the blind and clear the ears of the deaf. Jesus fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy in today’s Gospel. A man, deaf with a speech impediment, is brought to Jesus. The people beg Jesus “to lay his hand on him.” Taking the man away from the crowd, Jesus touches his ears and tongue. Jesus cries out, “Ephphatha” - that is “Be opened.” Immediately his “ears were opened.” and “he spoke plainly.” This miracle, this sign, reveals Jesus as the one who saves, whom Isaiah speaks of in today’s First Reading. Do you have trouble hearing? As we age, more and more of us struggle with hearing. The hearing aid business is booming! Yet this healing goes beyond just physical hearing, it speaks to spiritual deafness. Have you ever experienced “spiritual deafness?” Have you ever turned a deaf ear to Jesus, to his words of truth? Have you ever refused to listen to the words of Christ, words that challenge behaviors, lifestyles and attitudes? The deaf man of today’s Gospel, whose ears were cleared by Jesus, reminds us to examine the ears of our hearts. The deaf man invites us to ask Jesus to touch us, that we may welcome his words of truth. Peace be with you! God bless,

Fr. McKee

Best wishes to our Parish children who begin school this week!

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES PRAYER God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our

Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church. May your grace and love help our

families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your

Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love. through Christ our Lord. Amen.

JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH, PRAY FOR US!

Pope Francis is one of the most popular and magnetic world leaders in the past century. His visit here is an irreplaceable moment in history. It’s a moment that

can spark a whole new spirit of life in our region and in our Church. But we need to own that spirit by welcoming him with our joy, our presence and our personal involvement, not just with our words. And we can do that best by joining him in the streets of Philadelphia— on Independence Mall, at the Festival of Families,

and on the Ben Franklin Parkway for his Sunday Mass. (Archbishop Chaput)
