“Do not provoke your children, so they may not become discouraged.” Human relationships are messy. In the midst of love, joy, and goodness, there is brokenness, sorrow, and loneliness. Celebrating the Holy Family year after year reminds us that God chose to get involved in that same mess, to draw close to us so that he might draw us close to him. Children have obligations to their parents, as we hear about often enough in the scriptures and especially in the ten commandments. But parents also have obligations to their children—not only to bring them life, but to prepare them to receive the gift of eternal life. God chooses broken and limited instruments to teach his unlimited and

unfailing love, and the good news for parents is that even if they can’t quite pull that off, he will fill in whatever is lacking. Without fail we must call one another to the truth, St. Paul cautions us today to be attentive to the measure of that calling, which is at once the Cross of Christ and the embrace of the Father.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on New Year’s Eve from 9pm to midnight.

A Stewardship Thought “Using God's Gifts, Doing God's Work”

“See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.” ~1 John 3:1 During this season of giving, let us remember the most important gift we have received- being children of God. As God’s children, it’s important that we express our love for others as well. Tell your spouse, children and other family members and friends that you love them, frequently.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus are hosting a chili cook off and Dutch auction. If you are submitting a chili for the competition please have it at the Social Hall by 4:00 for judging. There is a $25 prize for the winner in each category. The social event with meal and Dutch auction begins at 6:30. Application to submit a chili are available at the Church and School offices and at the kiosk in the narthex. Meal includes a bowl of chili, a hot dog, dessert and beverage. Cost is Adults $7.00 and children under 10$3.00. The adult price includes 10 tickets for the Dutch auction, children’s includes 5 auction tickets. Our version of the Dutch auction is as follows: the items being auctioned are on display with a “red solo cup” placed in front of each item. You “bid” by placing a ticket in the cup. The more tickets you put in the cup, the better chance you have to win. At the conclusion of the evening, one ticket is pulled from each cup. Holder of that ticket goes home with the item. We have a large variety of items for auction, including children’s items. Extra Dutch auction tickets will be on sale for $1.00 for 5 tickets.

cosas buenas, existen rompimientos, tristeza y soledad.
