Introduction
Welcome to Indaver’s Waste to Energy Facility
At Indaver, safe ways of working and environmental awareness comes first.
When working on our site, you are personally responsible for your own safety and ensuring that your activities do not effect the safety of others.
This booklet explains our principal safety and environmental rules. We would ask that you please work and act according to the booklet’s guidelines at all times. If you are doubtful about certain situations or would like more information, do not hesitate to ask your Indaver contact person.

Facility access
We request that all customers / drivers:
•Report to site security upon arrival and departure
•Sign in and out when entering and leaving site
•Complete our site safety induction when entering the site for the first time
•Complete refresher health & safety training session when requested by our Health & Safety Department.

Vehicle access
Please adhere to our one-way traffic management system.

General Site Safety Rules

General facility rules
Please adhere to our traffic management system:
Site speed limit – 15Kph
All pedestrians must cross the road at designated crossing points.
•All pedestrians must adhere to walkways (footpaths and demarcated walkways).
•There is a one way traffic system in operation.
•Vehicles must give way to pedestrians.
•All vehicles must be parked in designated areas.
•No vehicle should obstruct walkways or pedestrians crossing points.
•Seat belts must be worn when driving.
•All pedestrians must enter the buildings through personnel doors only.
•Ensure your vehicle is secure when entering and exiting the site.
•Drivers are not permitted to carry passengers under the age of 16 years on site.
•Vehicles must have reversing lights and an alarm in working order.
•All drivers must present to Security with full PPE before entering site.

Smoking is not permitted other than in designated smoking areas.
Use of mobile phones or radios is not permitted when driving on site or when operating machinery.
Alcohol/drugs are not permitted on site.
•For your safety, if you are on prescription medication or have an ailment which may effect you at work, please ensure your employer notifies your Indaver contact. (All information will be treated in strict confidence.)
Use of mobile phones in EX areas or during a site emergency is not permitted.
Use of cameras on site is not permitted.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Please adhere to the signage. All personnel must comply with the mandatory PPE requirements.
Mandatory PPE
High visibility vest must be worn at all times
Safety footwear must be worn at all times
Hard hat must be worn in the ash hall and tipping hall
Safety glasses must be worn in the ash hall and tipping hall
Gloves must be worn in the ash hall and tipping hall
Hearing protection must be worn when ejecting trailers are operating in the tipping hall.

Vehicle safety
There can be a high volume of traffic movements around the facility.
•Please be aware of the following vehicles at all times:
•Fork lifts
•Front loaders
•Waste delivery vehicles
•Waste collection vehicles
•For your health and safety, maintenance of vehicles is not permitted in the tipping hall or ash hall. In the event of a breakdown, Indaver will assist you where practicable.
•Passengers must remain in vehicles at all times.

Plant alarms
We would like to make you aware of our alarm system which you might hear from time to time when visiting our site.
There are three types of alarm on our site:
1. Local alarm Individual areas of the plant are equipped with local sounders and strobe lights specific to the area:
2. Plant Evacuation AlarmIntermittent siren (approx. 20 times / min):
3. Test Plant Alarm
The test alarm is the evacuation alarm with a constant tone at the end:
•Every 3rd Thursday of the month at 1pm there is a Test Plant Alarm.
•No action is required on your part on the sounding of this alarm.

Actions to be taken on hearing the Plant Evacuation Alarm:
•Evacuate the area immediately.
•Evacuate building following emergency exit signage and lighting and proceed to assembly point in car park beside the security gatehouse.
•Walk, do not run and do not stop to collect personnel belongings.
•Report to the Site Evacuation Coordinator at the assembly point for roll-call.
•Await further instruction from Site Evacuation Coordinator.
Assembly point in event of the plant evacuation alarm sounding is located in car park beside the security gatehouse.

Emergency equipment
We would like to make you aware of our key emergency equipment:
Emergency showers
Eye wash stations
Emergency exit doors
Please do not block any emergency equipment whilst on site:
•Fire extinguishers
•Fire hoses
•Fire hydrants
•Emergency exit doors
Please keep walkways and stairs clear.

Working at height
•Only authorised persons are permitted to work at a height.
Exclusion zones
•Exclusion zones may be set up around work areas where there is a risk to personnel or visitors. Example: falling objects /vehicle or machinery breakdown.
•These areas are surrounded by appropriate devices preventing unauthorised personnel from entering.
•These are clearly identified with signage.
•Only authorised personnel may enter an exclusion zone.
•The exclusion zone is removed upon completion of the works when there is no longer a hazard.

Electricity
Please be aware of overhead cables while entering and exiting the plant and also on the surrounding roads.
Reporting of accidents
•We would ask that you report all accidents, near misses and significant spillages immediately to Site Security.
•Please fill in the incident report form provided by Site Security.
Please stop & think!
•For your safety, Indaver requests that all customers/drivers work in a safe and responsible manner.
•To prevent an accident from occuring, please report any unsafe working conditions or situations.

In the event of an injury please call one of the numbers below. Indaver personnel can provide First Aid treatment onsite.

Housekeeping
•Please ensure delivery vehicles are in good working order and are correctly covered.
•Please notify security if any spillages occur, e.g. diesel or leachate from vehicle.
Compliance with safety rules
For your safety we require that you comply with our Health & Safety Policy. If a customer/driver fails to follow the site safety rules while at the Indaver facility they will receive a formal warning from Indaver and / or may be requested to leave the site immediately, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
Examples (but not limited to): •Arriving on site in a vehicle without working
reversing lights or a working alarm
•Proceeding into the tipping hall without approval from Indaver personnel
•Carrying out maintenance of a vehicle while tipping in the tipping hall
•Not complying with safety advice / instructions given by Indaver personnel
•Not wearing mandatory PPE
