1 Area of applicabilityThese safety instructions apply to the interface adapter VEGACONNECT CONNECT.CX** accord-ing to the EC type approval certificate PTB 07 ATEX 2013 X (certification number on the type label).

2 General informationThe VEGACONNECT is an interface converter for connection of communication capable VEGA instruments to the USB interface of a Windows PC. Alternatively it can also be used as a universal HART modem for sensors of other manufacturers. The signals and protocols of the USB interface are converted into the industrial HART or I²C protocol. With an additional indicating and adjustment module it can also be used as a handheld. The VEGACONNECT consists of a junction box into which the communication module VEGACONNECT 4 is installed. Here, it works either as HART or I²C interface converter depending on the connected sensor.Alternatively the communication module VEGACONNECT 4 can be directly used on intrinsically safe circuits in VEGA instruments of plics® series. In this version it operates as I²C interface con-verter.In addition the junction box can also be used as display and adjustment module PLICSCOM. This intrinsically safe version enables parameter adjustment of a plics® sensor via the intrinsically safe I²C interface and is designated as handheld. The following versions are certified for VEGACONNECT:

Interface converter in junction box (CONNECT.CXA4)As appropriate instrument it is used as HART or I²C interface converter. The communication module VEGACONNECT 4 is inserted in the junction box.

Interface converter in plics® instrument (CONNECT.CXX4)As appropriate instrument it is used as I²C interface converter. The communication module VEGACONNECT 4 is directly inserted in a VEGA-plics® instrument.

Handheld (CONNECT.CXAP)As intrinsically safe instrument and in conjunction with a PLICSCOM the connection box is used for remote indication and adjustment of a plics® sensor with respectively certified, intrinsically safe I²C interface. No additional instruments or software is necessary. If VEGACONNECT 4 is used as appropriate instrument, it should only be operated outside the haz-ardous area. If there is no explosive atmosphere, the use within this hazardous area is also allowedIf VEGACONNECT is used as intrinsically safe instrument (handheld), it can also be operated in explosive areas of all combustible materials of gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC requiring category 1G or 2G instruments. If the instrument is installed and operated as accessory or intrinsically safe instrument, the general Ex mounting instructions EN 60079-14 as well as these safety instructions must be observed. The operating instructions as well as the installation regulations and standards that apply for explo-sion protection of electrical systems must always be observed. The installation of explosion-protected systems must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

3 Technical data

3.2 Use as intrinsically safe instrumentVEGACONNECT as handheldFor applications with integrated PLICSCOM (version CONNECT.CXX*), please take note of the temperature classification table of the VEGA sensor on which the handheld is operated. All certified VEGA-plics® sensors can be used (please compare list of certifications).

4 Protection against static electricityWhen used as intrinsically safe instrument in the version "Handheld" the housing is provided with a warning label referring to the safety instructions in case of electrostatic charge during operation.

Caution: Plastic parts! Danger of electrostatic charging!

• Avoid friction• No dry cleaning

5 Mounting/installation of the communication versionsFor applications with USB communication the VEGACONNECT 4 integrated in the junction box (CONNECT.CXA4) or in a VEGA sensor (CONNECT.CXX4), must be operated on an intrinsically safe circuit only for service purposes. Here, the VEGACONNECT must be operated outside the explosive area, or it must be guaranteed that there is no explosive atmosphere during operation. The I²C- and HART connection cable must not be wired simultaneously.

5.2 Use as appropriate instrument integrated in the connection box, communication via I²C-Bus (CONNECT.CXA4)

Application variety 1The VEGACONNECT with connected notebook, PLC or modem must only be operated within the safe area outside the explosive area.
