Changes to how we use your informationThe following wording in paragraph five has been amended to read:

Saga and/or the insurer(s) may obtain information about you from a number of sources, including credit

reference bureaus, to assess your financial and insurance risk and your identity.

The following wording has been added:

In order to assess financial and insurance risk, we will make checks on the full and open registers of the electoral roll and public data provided to us by credit reference bureaus and other third parties. This is also to assess your premium at quote and renewal, for credit applications and to assist with identity checks in order to prevent money laundering.

By applying for this policy you consent to Saga and/or the insurer(s) processing personal data, including sensitive personal data, about you and any other persons who are the subject of that application and/or who may be insured under the policy. You understand that all personal data you provide must be accurate and that if you supply another person’s personal data you are, by doing so, confirming that you have the specific consent of that other person to disclose that data.

Saga and/or the insurer will use your information (and that of other people insured by your policy), either collected at the outset or obtained from other third parties, for the following purposes:n To assess financial and insurance risks;n To prevent and detect crime including fraud, money laundering and financial sanctions;n To develop our products, pricing, systems, services and relationships with you;n To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

Saga and/or the insurer(s) may share this information with third parties in order to carry out insurance related activities on our behalf, including management of your claim, and legal advice.

From time to time Saga and/or the insurer(s) may need to disclose your personal and sensitive personal information and that of any other persons insured by your policy to other insurers, reinsurers, third party underwriters, credit reference bureaus, fraud prevention agencies, regulators and law enforcement agencies.

By accepting the original quotation and taking out this Saga policy you have provided us with permission on your own behalf and on behalf of any other persons insured by your policy to collate this sensitive personal data. You are deemed to have made any other persons insured by your policy aware of the information that has been captured and the uses disclosed.

Saga and/or the insurer(s) may transfer the rights and obligations existing under this policy of insurance.

We have changed the amount you are covered for from 20% of the building sum insured to £100,000.

By changing to a fixed amount we believe it more clearly shows what you are covered for.

Buildings cover – Paragraph 17 – Emergency Entry

We have expanded cover for forced entry by any of the emergency services.

You now have cover for any forced entry by the emergency services, not just for medical emergencies.

Contents cover – Paragraph 7 –

Subsidence or ground heave of the site on which the buildings stand, or landslip

We have included the following exclusion: Caused by coastal or river erosion.

We have added the exclusion to clarify that we do not cover subsidence, ground heave or landslip in these circumstances.

Contents cover – Paragraph 10 – Accidental damage to:

We have changed this wording to state:

We will insure you for all amounts which you have legal liability to pay as a tenant and not as owner of your buildings under a tenancy agreement for your buildings for any cause covered by paragraphs 1 to 4 and 6 to 12 of the Buildings section on pages 15 to 17. The most we will pay for any one claim is £5,000.

We have amended this section to make it clear we will cover the perils as listed in paragraphs 1 to 4 and 6 to 12 of the Buildings section.

Contents cover – Paragraph 30 – E. Your liability as a tenant

We have added the following exclusions: The General Exceptions shown on page 52.

The excess shown in your Schedule.

The first £1,000 of any claims for subsidence, ground heave or landslip.

Loss or damage shown as not insured under paragraphs 1 to 4 and 6 to 12 of the Buildings section (pages 15 to 17).

The contents excess will now be applicable to this section. We have also clarified that anything excluded under paragraphs 1 to 4 and 6 to 12 of the Buildings section is not covered.

The most we will pay for any one claim caused by theft or attempted theft from a motor vehicle that is not occupied is £1,000.

The most we will pay for any single item, collection or set is:n £2,500 for valuables and personal

belongings;n £500 for pedal cycles, including their

accessories.

Where they are insured:

Valuables and personal belongings – anywhere in the world in your custody or control.

Pedal cycles and their accessories – Anywhere in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man or Channel Islands unless we specifically agreed otherwise and you pay any additional premium.

We have increased our single article limit away from the home from £1,000 to £2,500 and now include up to £500 for pedal cycles.

Please note if you have unspecified personal belongings cover and have items specified away from the home less than £2,500, or £500 for pedal cycles we have removed them from this section as they will now be automatically covered. Please check your Schedule and call us if you have any concerns.

We have amended the following exclusion:

Valuables, personal belongings or pedal cycles, including their accessories, in the custody or control of any member of your family whilst they are living away from the home in Halls of Residence or any other term-time student accommodation.

We have now included pedal cycles in this exclusion.

If your home was unfurnished or unoccupied at the time of loss or damage.

Caused by subsidence, ground heave, settlement or landslip.

We have moved Trace and access cover to its own section to make this cover clearer.

earthquake;n riot, civil commotion, strike, labour or

political disturbance;n malicious acts or vandalism;n being hit by aircraft, flying objects or

anything falling from them, vehicles, animals, falling trees, branches, or aerials, satellite dishes, masts and their fittings;

n storm or flood;n subsidence or ground heave of

the site on which your student accommodation stands, or landslip;

n water or oil that has leaked from any fixed domestic water or heating installation, appliance, piping or drain; or

n theft or attempted theft.

What is not covered:

Loss or damage:n to pedal cycles;n to personal money;

We are now able to cover contents in your student accommodation as standard within our Premier cover.

Legal Expenses The following definitions have been added:

Second home – A house, bungalow, flat or maisonette, including the domestic garages and outbuildings belonging to this home, used for domestic purposes and owned by you; insured by Saga Services Limited and occupied by you on a regular basis.

The following definitions have been amended:

Date of incident – The date of the event; or

the date of the first event where there is more than one event arising from the same cause; or

the date on which the cause of action arises where this relates to the purchase of your home or your second home;

Home – The house, bungalow, flat or maisonette, including domestic garages and outbuildings belonging to the home, shown in your Schedule.

Property – Your home, your second home and the land within their boundaries, for which you are legally responsible.

Legal Expenses Cover – Help and advice from Saga

We are now only able to provide legal advice relating to the laws of Gibraltar and the United Kingdom, meaning England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Unfortunately we are no longer able to provide legal advice for the rest of the European Union, Switzerland or Norway.

Legal Expenses Cover

Under ‘We do not cover the following’, we have decreased the amount in dispute from £250 to £100.

We have lowered the amount that needs to be in dispute to provide more cover.

Legal Expenses Cover

Under ‘We do not cover the following’, we have added the following wording:

Legal costs where reasonable prospects do not exist.

This is just to confirm that you are not covered if you are unlikely to win the case.

Legal Expenses Cover – Death and Personal Injury

We have renamed this section ‘1. Death, personal injury and medical negligence.’

This is to confirm that medical negligence is an insured event.

Legal Expenses Cover – Contract Disputes

We have removed the following wording from this section:

Any claim relating to:

– any contracts or agreements which you made before the commencement of this Legal Expenses policy;

– any breach of a contract or agreement if there has been any break in the continuous cover under this Legal Expenses policy from the date the contract or agreement was made;

We are now able to cover pre-existing contracts as long as the date of incident is during the period of insurance for the Legal Expenses Cover.

Legal Expenses Cover – Contract Disputes

We have increased the contract of works limit from £5,000 to £20,000.

This is to provide more cover in case of any disputes following building work or advice, such as the construction of a conservatory.

Legal Expenses – Contract disputes and Protection of property

Please be aware that with the changes to the definitions as listed above we can now cover second homes under your main home’s Legal Expenses Cover as long as the second home is insured with Saga.

The Legal Expenses Cover on your main home can now cover your second home too. This is so you do not have to insure legal expenses twice.

Legal Expenses – Employment

We have added statutory sick pay to the exclusions.

This is to clarify that we cannot provide cover for disputes in relation to this.

Legal Expenses – Protection of property

We have added the following wording under ‘We cover the following’: trespass, including if there are squatters in your property.

This is to clarify that trespass by squatters is covered under this section.

Legal Expenses Cover Condition –

7. Appointed representatives’ costs, witness costs and other expenses

We have added the following wording:

d. as a result of you or anyone acting for you making a claim that is false or fraudulent in any way.

Wording added as part of our work on fraud prevention.

Legal Expenses Cover – How to make a claim

The law firm managing our Legal Expenses claim service has changed.

General Exceptions and Conditions for both Essential and Premier

Policy section Change made How this affects you?

General Condition 2 – Cancellation

With General Condition 2 we and/or Saga may cancel your policy for, but not limited to, the following reasons:n change in your circumstances that

results in an increase in risk which we are unable to insure;

n failure to provide us or Saga with information we or Saga have requested that is directly relevant to the cover provided under this policy or any claim;

n a breach of any terms or conditions of your policy;

n we act under General Condition 3 – Misrepresentation and fraud;

n you do not pay any policy premium requested or, if applicable, stop paying the instalment premiums;

n use or threat of violence or aggressive behaviour against our or Saga’s staff, contractors or property;

n the use of foul or aggressive language.

This will not affect your right to make a claim for any event that happened before the cancellation date. If we cancel the policy we will refund premiums already paid for the remainder of the current period of insurance, provided no claim has been made during the current period of insurance.

We have made it clearer what the reasons are that could cause the insurer or Saga to cancel a policy.

General Condition 3 – Misrepresentation and fraud

We have now included the following wording as General Condition 3: Misrepresentation and fraud

If we discover that you or anyone acting for you has:n misrepresented answers to any of the

questions when applying for, amending or renewing cover with us or Saga;

We have removed Claim Condition 4 and General Exception 13 and replaced them with this new wording to clearly show our stance on misrepresentation and fraud.

General Condition 3 – Misrepresentation and fraud (cont)

n deliberately misled us or Saga to obtain cover, gain a cheaper premium or more favourable terms;

n provided any false or invalid documents to us or Saga; or

n made a fraudulent, false or exaggerated claim or any part of a claim;

we may look to take the following actions:

If we are able to continue cover we may:

– amend your policy with the corrected information;

– apply any relevant terms and conditions that would have been applicable had the correct information been declared;

– collect any additional premium including any administration fee;

– reduce a claim proportionately.

If we are unable to continue cover we may:

– cancel your policy or void it from the inception (treat it as if it never existed) and if applicable reject any claim made.

If any fraud or deliberate dishonesty has been identified we may:

– void your policy from inception (treat it as if it never existed) or cancel your policy from the date of the fraud or misrepresentation and if applicable reject any claim made;

– not return any premium paid by you;

– recover any costs we have incurred in investigating a claim;

– pass details to the Police and fraud prevention agencies;

– take legal action against you.

General Condition 5 – Changes in Circumstances

We have now listed down a number of changes that we need to be notified of. Please read your Statement of Insurance as part of your Renewal invitation to see what changes we need to be notified of.

We have made it clearer what changes we need to be notified of during the course of the year. For ease we have also included this as part of your Statement of Insurance.
