    Labor Code

    Maintained through Payroll\Setup Menu\Labor Code Maintenance

    Can be used to Group Employees and also post Wage Expense separately

    Primary State = Primary State Employee Works In

    Pay Cycle Multiple pay cycles can be used as a tool to group employees

    Daily - for a daily payroll cycle used primarily for short term labor

    Weekly once a week, very popular in construction

    Bi-Weekly- every other week

    Semi-Monthly twice a month

    Monthly just once a month

    Quarterly- once a quarter

    Annually just one annual pay check

    Pay Method - Select the pay method for the employee.

    Select Salaried if this employee is paid a fixed salary.

    Select Hourly if the employee is paid an hourly rate.

    Overtime Exempt Checkbox Select this check box if the employee isexempt from overtime pay. Clear this check box if this employee is entitled toreceive overtime pay for any hours worked that exceed the regular hours worked.

    This field defaults to selected for salaried employees, and defaults to cleared for

    hourly employees.

    Benefit Code

    Enter a benefit schedule code to be used to define how benefits are accrued for this

    employee. If you change the benefit code, the annual limits for all three benefit

    types are reset. Click the Lookup button to list all benefit schedule codes.

    Select Table Rate to define a table rate. If Table Rate is selected, a Rate Tablebutton appears at the Accrual Rate field. Click Rate Table to enter the range and

    rate for which benefits will accrue.

    Auto Pay Hours Average hours to pay employee, this should be corrected asneeded in Payroll Data Entry. If you select the Cycle Hours button you get the hours

    per Pay Cycle. Weekly = 40, Bi-Weekly = 80, Semi-Monthly = 86.67 and etc.

    Pay Rate 1 -Type the rate of pay. For hourly employees, enter the regular hourlyrate. For salaried employees, enter the salary amount per pay cycle. This pay rate is

    used by all earnings codes based on Pay Rate 1.

    Pay Rate 1 Change Comment - Type a comment to associate with the PayRate 1 change. The comment is printed on the Pay Rate Change Report. This field isavailable only if a change is made to the Pay Rate 1 field information, and if the

    Track Changes to Employee Pay Rate 1 check box is selected in Payroll Options.

    Pay Rate 2 - Type an alternate rate of pay. For hourly employees, enter thealternate hourly rate (for example, for night shift). For salaried employees, enter the

    salary amount per pay cycle. You can set up earnings codes to use this pay rate.

    Update Review Comment - Select this check box to update the reviewdate comment on the Main tab with the Pay Rate 1 comment. This field is available

    only if a change is made to the Pay Rate 1 field information, and if the Track

    Changes to Pay Rate 1 check box is selected in Payroll Options.

    SUI State Enter the state code representing the state for which stateunemployment insurance (SUI) taxes are calculated and paid. The state selected is

    determined by the employer based on state tax laws. This field is also used to

    calculate SDI and employee SUI, if applicable. Click the Lookup button to list all state

    codes. If this field is left blank, the state where earnings are recorded during dataentry is used to calculate and pay SUI and SDI.

    E.I.C. Code - Enter the Earned Income Credit (EIC) code, or click the Lookupbutton to list all filing status codes available for the EIC calculation.

    Enter S for an employee who is single.

    Enter M1 for a married employee with one spouse filing for Earned Income Credit (EIC).

    Enter M for a married employee with both spouses filing EIC certificates.

    Tax Status - Use Tax Status to display tax status information. The tax statusinformation for a specific employee must be defined separately for federal, state,

    and local (if applicable) tax jurisdictions.

    If you use multiple states or local codes for an employee, click OK after each entry to

    enter the next code. Only one code appears at a time.

    Note: The Local column is available only if the Require Local Tax Reporting check box is

    selected in the Payroll Options window.

    Multiple Earnings Codes:

    Use Automatic Earnings Code Maintenance to set up earnings codes for each

    employee. The earnings codes can then be used to automatically create Payroll

    Data Entry line entries using the Auto Pay feature.
