a delightful sail on our two hour public Sunset Cruise

Annapolis is “America’s Sailing Capital” in the heart of the

Chesapeake. A trip to the area would not be complete without

a sailing cruise of the Annapolis harbor and through the

surrounding Bay. Experience the joy of sailing on our splendid

yachts, WOODWIND and WOODWIND II.

Each and every trip is unique. As we head underway, you are

sure to get a waterfront tour of the Naval Academy, the scenic

Severn River, Spa Creek and other points of interest. Great

blue herons and ospreys can often be spotted while sailing.

Both boats were custom designed and built specically for

sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and are replicas of the classic

fast wooden schooners that were built as “yachts” in the

early part of the twentieth century. Their handsome wooden

decks, mahogany brightwork, and roomy cockpit distinguish

them from cargo carrying work vessels.

Captain Ken and Ellen Kaye,

owners of the WOODWINDS,

decided to retire early after

25 years of teaching in public

schools. After their daughter,

Jennifer, returned from a semester at sea aboard a

125’ schooner, the family pursued their dream of

owning a yacht to introduce people to sailing. In

1993, they had a handsome vessel custom designed

and built based on their 20 years of sailing experience.

An identical sister boat, WOODWIND II, was later added

to the family in 1998.

The extended family of captains and crew members

are chosen for their sailing knowledge, friendliness and

enthusiasm. These are the qualities that will make your

onboard experience a special one.

We sail up to four times daily from the downtown,

Annapolis Waterfront Hotel. Our weekday sunset sails

offer a variety of entertainment from historical guided

tours, to beer tasting, to live music. Sailing races are

visible on evenings and weekends, and if the winds are

right, we may cruise under the Bay Bridge for a breath--

taking experience. Our cash bar is stocked with a large

selection of local craft beer, wine and bubbly!
