Brandenburg was designed for herring fishing with drift nets in the harsh weather of the North Sea. The herring was preserved (salted) on-board and each trip could

last 5-6 weeks…The ship was manned by a crew of 14. Sails was their only means of propulsion.

“Nortun” ex. ”Brandenburg”

launched April 1905 at Nordseewerke,

Emden.

Brandenburg was construction no. 4 (Second ship built at the yard) The order came from Grosser Kurfürst Heringfischerei. The fishing registry number AE 87 stated the area of Aurich/ Emden. •Brandenburg AE 87 1905-1914 Emden ( Germany)

After yeas of service as a sailing fishing vessel under German and Dutch flag

the ship was sold to Denmark in 1934. here she got her first engine and

served as a cargo vessel.

The ship was well known all along the Scandinavian coast sailing with various goods

Nortun was sold to NorwayIn 1954 where the sailing rig was removed and rebuild with a large cargo hold, bigger wheel house and lifting arrangement.

In 1998 the vessel was taken out of service and sold to Tom Ueland Bratås who started the rebuild to a Sailing Yacht.
