SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA May 7, 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts
Our long Easter celebration continues today with what is
traditionally known as “Good Shepherd Sunday” because
the Gospel on the 4th Sunday of Easter relates ones of
Jesus’ “Good Shepherd” sayings. Today is a good day to
reflect on and be thankful for all the people who have been
good shepherds in your faith life, and to pray for all pastors
and priests as well as for vocations for the future of our
church.
Readings for this Week (May 8-13) Monday: Acts 11:1-18; John 10:11-18
Tuesday: Acts 11:19-26; John 10:22-30
Wednesday: Acts 12:24—13:5a John 12:44-50
Thursday: Acts 13:13-25; John 13:16-20
Friday: Acts 13:26-33 John 14:1-6
Saturday: Acts 13:44-52; John 14:7-14
Scripture for next Sunday (5th Sunday of Easter)
Acts 6:1-7 They chose Stephen.
1 Peter 2:4-9 “The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.”
John 14:1-12 “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
In John’s Gospel next Sunday Jesus reassures Thomas,
Philip, and us, who don’t understand where Jesus is going,
much less how to follow Him there. All we have to do is
focus on knowing and believing in Him, and we will find the
way. It will not be easy to do, but that is why we have our
community with us, to help us.

Looking Ahead (re: Incense)… For our folks with allergies to incense.. Please note the
following weekends when we will have incense at liturgy:
ASCENSION (May 27/28), PENTECOST (June 3/4),
HOLY TRINITY (June 10/11), MOST HOLY BODY &
BLOOD (June 17/18). Remember, on weekends with
incense, we do NOT use incense at the 8:30a Sunday Mass.
Fr. Stephen’s homilies: Just a reminder, for folks who
would like to “follow-along” with a typed copy when
Father Stephen preaches… at those Masses there are always
copies on the pedestal in the commons that you can pick up
on your way into church.
PLEASE… treat the hymnals with care! This year we have had an unusually large number of
hymnals damaged/torn in the church and particularly in the
chapel. Each week we find more that we need to tape. The
hymnals need to be used until Advent begins (December) so
please don’t let small children play with them and if one is
accidently torn, please let us know so we can tape before it
becomes unusable. Thank you.
St. Anne School 5K This Saturday May 13!
St. Anne School annual 5K run is scheduled for this
Saturday, May 13 on the Abingdon Creeper Trail.
This is the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend and so

T-shirt design and a treat for all the “Moms” who
participate. Registration forms can be found at:
runtricities.org. We hope to see you there!
“Summer” Subs Needed!! We are in need of some folks willing to volunteer to
work Bingo to “substitute” for some of our faithful
bingo workers so they can take a bit of vacation over
the summer months. If you would be willing to help
fill in on a few Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday
evenings at Bingo during the summer, please sign up
in the commons or contact the parish office! Thanks!!
HOLY WATER:
There are holy water bottles available
by request in the church office. Fr. William Saunders, pastor of Our Lady of Hope parish in
Potomac Falls, VA, writes that holy water offers “blessings
for three reasons: as a sign of repentance of sin, for
protection from evil, and as a reminder of our Baptism.”
There is no specific prayer to pray when using holy water,
other than the Sign of the Cross, “In the name of the Father
and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Other prayers can also be
offered, such as “By this holy water and by Your Precious
Blood, wash away all my sins, O Lord.”. You can also pray
an Our Father or the Saint Michael the Archangel prayer
when using holy water. Stop by the office if you would like
to get a holy water bottle so you can have holy water in
your home. Keep in mind that the holy water in the font has
already been blessed by the prayers of the priest.
Please also keep in mind that holy water from the church
font is NOT for drinking.
Parish Pastoral Council members are reminded of their
meeting this Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the School
Conference Room.
