"'The feast is ready, but those who were
invited were not worthy to come. Go out,
therefore, into the main roads and invite
to the feast whomever you find.' The
servants went out into the streets and
gathered all they found, bad and good
alike, and the hall was filled with guests."
- Mt 22:8b-10
Dear Parishioners,
! We have all been horrified and sickened by the ongoing
beheadings of Western hostages by the ISIS terrorists. In the latest round of these
brutal attacks I was struck by one reality. It appears that all of the victims were in
that part of the world because they wanted to be of help. A couple were journalists
who wanted to get out the story of how people were suffering because of the
ongoing war and violence. Others were aid workers who were providing medical
supplies or services or other humanitarian aid. They were working with and for
people of the areas from which they were abducted. These terrorists, in order to be
heard, have brutally attacked and murdered and continue to murder these selfless
humanitarians showing that their own selfish ends and purposes are more important
to them than any actions that can build up the dignity of human beings who are
suffering in that part of the world. In these events we see the age old struggle of
good vs. evil. Evil, for its own selfish purposes is willing to interfere with the good
acts of selfless souls. Make no mistake, evil exists and is active in our world. The
Christian is tempted to be disillusioned and lose faith. The Lord would have us
remember that it is in the good deeds we do that the seeds of peace and
non-violence are sown and grow. Never let evil win out. Always have faith in the
love of God and in our ability to share it.
