From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:If anyone knows well the parable of the sower and the seed in this Sunday’s Gospel,

farmers know (Matthew 13:1-23). Indeed, farmers know the importance of preparing and having good soil for the seeds they plant. And our beloved farmers know the importance of caring for the soil, tending their crops, feeding and caring for their dairy cows, for their hogs and other farm animals. Agriculture is foundational to our country and our nation’s economy – so may we always thank God for our farmers and, in particular, family farms, praying for them each day. We can’t all be farmers, but we can all understand the parable that Jesus tells because it’s about being His good disciples. Besides, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ even explains the parable:

“Hear then the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the Word of the Kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the Word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the Word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the Word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the Word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the Word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

As brothers and sisters in Christ, may we heed the parable of the sower and the seed, and strive, by God’s grace, to be rich soil for the divine Sower, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to be instruments of His love, goodness and mercy. He first sowed His seed, His grace, in our soul at our baptism. How often since then has He given us an abundance of His grace! How often has He passed close beside us, helping, encouraging and forgiving us (Matthew 28:20)! He sows His seeds of grace (His divine help, a share in His divine Life) through His Church, Word and Sacraments, and through our prayers and the Communion of Saints. In our love for God and love for neighbor, may the soil of our soul be always disposed to receive Him, always attentive to praying for the Holy Spirit’s gifts, especially fortitude, wisdom and understanding, striving by His grace to bear and yield the good fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity (Galatians 5:22-23).

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William Vernon

SPECIAL PRAYER SERVICE FOR OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE SILVER ROSE

In 1960, Knights of Columbus Squires from Canada, the United States of America and Mexico decided to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary by “running” a natural rose from Ontario, Canada, and presented the Rose to her on her feast day, December 12th, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. By the third year, it was the Running of the Silver Rose. In 2001, the Knights of Columbus renewed the Run by reaffirming the sacredness of life and Mary’s position as the Mother of God and our Mother.

The Silver Rose will visit St. Clement on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:30 pm for you to unite your thanks and your petitions with the Blessed Virgin Mary! Bring your family. Bring your friends. With the problems and challenges that we have in our country, we should fill the church!

GO MAKE DISCIPLES“If those first disciples had not followed God’s plan and gone

out, if they had simply rejoiced in knowing they were loved and saved, and left it there, neither you nor I would know Christ. We would not have received this Good News ourselves. If we are truly to be disciples then, we have no option but to do the same. Being a mediator, a missionary to others, is fundamental to our being disciples.

We have been given a treasure. It has taken over two thousand years and has literally cost people their lives to deliver it, but we now have it. The thing about this gift, however, is that we can sit with it, and we can and should spend time considering how grateful we are for it – offering our thanks to the Giver. But if we only place it on a shelf or, worse, bury it, it will be taken from us. A fundamental tenet of Alcoholics Anonymous is that one can only maintain personal sobriety if one is busy helping someone else find theirs. So it is with faith. Faith shared is faith strengthened.

Why is this? What compels us to evangelize? Love. Love of Him who first loved us. Love of our neighbor. Love of ourselves as He loves us. When you think about it, if we truly valued the gift God has given us in loving us, redeeming us, and drawing us to Himself, the only appropriate response is to love, to thank, and to glorify Him (and this should always flow from and lead to the Eucharist). The best and most perfect way to love God is to keep His Commandments and the last mission He gave His disciples was precisely to evangelize – to make disciples. To love our neighbors and to love ourselves perfectly, we should desire to work for the salvation of souls – to bring others and ultimately ourselves into perfect union with God. The love of God compels us to evangelize. We are disciples, we are evangelizers, and we are called to be missionaries to those around us out of love. We want every human being to know and love God,

to experience salvation.Reflection Question: Name two

people to whom God is calling you to be a messenger of God’s love?
