I’d like to address something that causes a lot of confusion. Out of Charity we offer Masses and prayers for our deceased family and friends. It is a custom from time immemorial to have intentions for our loved ones at Holy Mass. It is something that goes back to our Jewish roots (See 2Maccabees 12:38-46). Church Law allows for only one intention per Mass under usual circumstances. The stipend and where it goes is determined by the Ecclesiastical Province. We are in the Province of New Jersey. The Bishops of New Jersey get together and figure this out. A stipend of $10 goes to the priest saying Mass for the first Mass of the day. After that all stipends go to the Seminarian Fund for the diocese for the education of our seminarians. After reviewing the applicable canon law in consultation with Msgr William Benwell, our Vicar General, there is one way to allow for multiple intentions in a Mass (collective Mass) under certain circumstances. there may be only 2 days a week when collective Masses are prayed. The intentions are limited to three intentions per Mass. The donors must be aware and agree that there will be more than one intention at that Mass. It must be published so that parishioners are aware of it. The "Mass for the People” on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation are respected. You will notice that every Sunday there is a “pro populo” Mass — that is, for the people of our parish and community, as required by Church law. Usually by this time of year there are no more Mass intentions left. Again the Vicar General, Msgr Benwell, was kind enough to address this issue with me and we will be instituting this on a trial basis on certain days for the rest of the year. Please be aware of this when you come to the rectory office and request a Mass for an intention. If you have any questions, please ask me or Patty Bisignano.

A Message from Pastor Fr. Michael Fragoso

Parish Intention of the month This month, as we celebrate both Pentecost and Mary, Mother of the Church, may we reflect on how they are both linked to our mission as evangelizers, that is, to preach the gospel by our example and by our words.

Please pray for those who were baptized this past month: Lilly Rose Tomaszewski, Avarey & Ava Gallagher, Dominik Emerson, Chase Ryan Skolnick, Darlene & Litzzy Chunchi Shinin, Mayte Barreto Shinin. Please pray for those who have died this past month: Frances Scarpa, John Quelli, Salvatore Sabatino, Carmela Damiani, Mary Bellomo, Juana Lugo-Marrero

Congratulations to the Confirmation and First Holy Communion candidates who received the blessed sacrament this week.

    May God bless you always.
