LEADING OFF After turning in the best single-season league record in program history, Saint Joseph’s earned the program’s first postseason appearance since 2009, as the Hawks claimed the fourth seed for the 2016 Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship. HAWKS CLAIM FOURTH SEED IN ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP A three-way tie for second place between George Mason, Duquesne and Saint Joseph’s, all with conference records of 7-2, was broken by goal differential among the three tied teams. Based on the tiebreaker, George Mason finished second, Duquesne earned the third seed, and the Hawks garnered the fourth seed. SAINT JOSEPH’S ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY The Hawks are making their third overall Atlantic 10 Championship appearance and first under the guidance of head coach Alex Kahoe. In its previous appearances, Saint Joseph’s has posted a 1-2 record, advancing to the title game in 2009. Below is a year-by-year breakdown of Saint Joseph’s record at the A-10 Championship. 2001 - 4th Seed 2009- 3rd Seed Semifinals Semifinals Temple 15, Saint Joseph’s 6 Saint Joseph’s 11, Richmond 10 Finals Massachusetts 15, Saint Joseph’s 14 (2OT) 2016 SEASON ONE FOR RECORD BOOKS After going 1-7 in non-conference action, the Hawks have turned things around in league play. Saint Joseph’s finished 7-2 in the A-10 and won six straight games from April 3 through April 22, which marks the longest win streak in program history. Additionally, the seven wins broke the record for single-season league wins, previously set at five by the 2009 squad. The program record for most wins in a season is 10. HAWKS PICKED EIGHTH IN A-10 PRESEASON POLL The Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 this sea- son, according to the conference’s preseason poll. Under the direction of second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph’s returned 18 Hawks, including nine starters, and added eight newcom- ers to the field for the 2016 season. SERIES HISTORY VS. DAVIDSON Thursday’s game will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the Hawks and the Wildcats; Saint Joseph’s leads the series, 3-1, and defeated Davidson, 10-8, on April 3 of this season to spark a program-best six-game winning streak that spanned 21 days. Davidson last defeated Saint Joseph’s in 2015, by a final score of 13-10. REBECCA LANE TABBED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE YEARFreshman midfielder Rebecca Lane was voted the 2016 Atlantic 10Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year, the league officeannounced on Wednesday afternoon. Lane becomes SJU’s second A-10Rookie of the Year in program history. Through 13 games, Lane posted50 points on 31 goals and 19 assists, ranking second on the squad in allthree categories. The rookie midfielder out of Victoria, Australia led theHawks with 38 points through nine league games, including a nine-pointeffort (5g, 4a) at George Washington, and put away the overtime game-winner against Duquesne on April 15. A two-time A-10 Rookie of theWeek, Lane finished the regular season in the league’s top ten for goalsper game, assists per game, points per game, total assists, total points,and free position percentage.

SJu TRIO EARN A-10 FIRST TEAM, ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM HONORSJunior attacker Nora McCallion, junior midfielder Maggie Egan, andsenior defender Caroline Hagan all earned spots on the A-10’s FirstTeam and All-Academic Team. This marks the first year since 2009 thatthe Hawks have earned First Team recognition and the first time in pro-gram history that three Hawks have earned All-Academic honors in thesame season.

LANE, SABOL SELECTED TO ALL-ROOKIE TEAMFreshman midfielders Rebecca Lane and Hayley Sabol were voted ontothe Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. Sabol won the overtime draw controlthat led to SJU’s thrilling victory over Duquesne on April 15 and added afour-point effort (3g, 1a) against St. Bonaventure.

S-A-I-N-T JOSEPH’S uNIVERSITYThe corporate title of “Saint” Joseph’s University, which has been inplace since Saint Joseph’s was granted university status by theCommonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1979, is now the “public” title of theinstitution for all aspects of its operations. Previously, the abbreviationof “St.” Joseph’s University was permitted in a number of alumni andathletic contexts. According to the most recent edition of the HigherEducation Directory, there are at least nine recognized "St. Joseph's"among the nation's colleges and universities. Only one of them-SaintJoseph's University, Philadelphia-is a university-level, Master's I, NCAADivision I institution. A complete spelling of S-A-I-N-T Joseph's Universityin all contexts will help eliminate any confusion among higher educationand other public constituencies.
