Men’s Round Table

This men’s group will be starting at Saint Lawrence!

The purpose of the group is to provide assistance in the par-ish with various projects and activities in response to identi-fied needs and problems as they arise. The group is spon-sored by the Knights of Columbus, but you do not need to be a member of the K of C to participate.

We expect to meet two or three times a year, as needed, to plan our activities & projects. This is a much needed ministry!

Contact Ron Lorbeck if you have any question or if you would like to join the group: 715-325-2833.

Thank you to the St. Lawrence Faith Community and the women of the parish for hosting my 25th Anniver-sary to the Permanent Diaconate this past Sunday. I was deeply touched by the messages on the posters and the cards to me! You are all an inspiration to me! May God continue to bless all of you! Deacon Jim

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP! I need volunteers to staff the SWEPS food pantry. The week assigned to St. Lawrence is January 14-18. Tuesday 3:45-7pm, other days, 11:45am—4pm. Our list of volunteers has been shrinking! Men are welcome to help too! The volunteer duties are fast-paced and easy to learn. You’ll work with a partner to fill grocery orders. New volunteers will be trained, and there are always seasoned veterans to mentor you. TRY IT, you will feel good about helping needy in our community! Call Karen Schiferl, 715-424-3367 to volunteer.

Dear Friends and Families:

The Joyous news of Christmas awakes around us and invites us to experience what we know to be the Divinely eloquent truth of God’s involvement with the human race! Please allow me the opportunity to thank you for the genuine way in which you make the living Christ personally present to me in so many ways. While this has been a busy year with its own twists and turns, we have remained steadfast in our service to God and His People who expect to see, hear and experience Jesus in and through us!

My sincere prayers and best wishes are with all of you for a very happy and blessed Christmas! Thanks for all you do!

Sincerely,

Bishop William

Please notice the two red stockings hanging in the back of Church. Each year, our parish collects money in red stockings for a local mission. This year’s mission is SWEPS (South Wood Emerging Pantry Shelf.

Living out Christmas in the New Year How do we live out the message of Christmas in the New Year, rather than pack it away with the ornaments? Each year the Octave Day of Christmas falls on the first day of the New Year, on which we also celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. Her open heart and courageous “yes” to God show us how to live year-round—with hearts open to the Lord, following where He leads. We are called to place our trust in Him, to enter compassionate-ly into the suffering of others, and to love one another as Christ loves us. Like Our Blessed Mother welcomed Jesus, we are called to cherish and protect the gift of human life, at every stage and in every circumstance. One way to live out the message of Christmas and follow Our Lady’s example is to join 9 Days for Life, a digital pilgrimage of prayer and charitable action. The U.S. Catholic bishops invite you to join thousands of Catholics nationwide from Thursday, January 18 – Friday, January 26. Join today at www.9daysforlife.com!

Safe Haven Sunday – March 10 In the coming weeks, you will be learning more about an initiative called Safe Haven Sunday that will equip parents to protect their family from the harms of pornography. Why is this important? Let’s look at a few facts about youth and pornography. In 2016, a study by the Berna Group discovered among teens age 13-17

7% came across porn daily; 8% intentionally sought it out daily.

21% came across porn weekly; 18% sought it out weekly.

21% came across porn 1-2 times a month; 11% sought it out.

In total, 57% of teens sought out porn at least monthly.
