SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS3-7 MIAC, 13-16 Overall

MACALESTER SCOTS6-4 MIAC, 16-10 Overall

Augsburg broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out,bases-loaded single in the bottom of theseventh in handing Saint Mary's a 2-1setback in the opener of their MIAC dou-bleheader, before erupting for threeruns in the bottom of the ninth to rallyfor a 7-6, come-from-behind win in thenightcap.

The Auggies broke up a scorelesspitchers' duel in the third inning of theopener, getting a sacrifice fly by JoshMarlowe to score Joensy Buescher, whohad opened the inning with a single, moved to second on a balk, and ad-vanced to third on a fielder's choicegroundout to shortstop.

With one swing of the bat, the Cardinals pulled even in thetop of the fourth, as Ben Buerkle launched his seventh homerun of the season—a one out shot to right field. That, however, would be the extent of the Cardinals' offen-

sive punch in Game 1—which seemed to be just fine with R.J.Brown on the mound. Brown limited the Auggies to just thatone run on four hits through the game's first six innings. Then came the seventh.Jordan DeCroock laced a two-out double to left to kick off

the Auggie rally. Buescher was intentionally walked, and thetwo moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Rhett Hebigwas hit by a Brown offering to load the bases, and Marlowefollowed with his game-winning, walk-off single to left to giveAugsburg the 2-1 victory.Saint Mary's had things under control early in Game 2, scor-

ing three times in the fourth—the first on a Bob Kinne doubleand the other two on a Chris Bartosz single—for a 3-0 lead.Augsburg answered with a solo run in the bottom of the

fourth, but a Jake Barry (Tinley Park, Ill.) two-run home run—his team-leading eighth of the season—in the sixth pushedSaint Mary's lead to 5-1.The Auggies again cut into the deficit in their half of the

sixth, scoring two runs of their own to make it a 5-3 game. Both teams scored single runs in the eighth, giving the Cardi-nals what appeared to be a comfortable, two-run, 6-4 advan-tage heading to the bottom of the ninth.Unfortunately, that lead was anything but comfortable.Eric Olheiser led off the Augsburg ninth with a double, and

Mike Brookshaw followed with a game-tying two-run home runto right. Snow delivered a single and was sacrificed to second.Buescher was intentionally walked to put runners on first andsecond, and, after Snow took third on a wild pitch, Hebiglifted a one-out, game-winning sacrifice fly to right.

The Cardinals erupted for 13 runs—their highest offensive output sincebeating Concordia 14-11 in their thirdgame of the season—in cruising to a13-7 win over Macalester in Game 1,before riding the eight-inning pitchingperformance of Austin Jacobs to a 6-4Game 2 victory at Max Molock Field. The Cardinals got on the board first

in the top of the first, and Macalesteranswered with a solo run in the bot-tom of the first.Saint Mary’s plated six runs in the
