This is the Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today's gospel passage can really be broken down into three sections: The first part about fraternal correction, The second part about forgiveness and lastly,

The effectiveness of prayer. What unites all of the parts of this passage is the fact that they all have to do with community, specifically, though not exclusively, with the community of believers which is the church. Our faith is not lived in isolation, unless we elect to do so in religious orders, but in community with others. This community begins with our families and extends outwards to include our neighbors, our co-workers and others with whom we interact on a regular basis. And most certainly it includes those with whom we worship in community. Without this community, our faith will die. Consider the following story. A pastor heard that one of his parishioners was going about announcing that he would no longer attend church services. This rebellious parishioner was advancing the familiar argument that he could communicate with God just as easily out in the fields with nature as his setting for worship. One winter evening, the pastor called on this reluctant member of his flock for a friendly visit. The two men sat before the fireplace making small talk, but studiously avoiding the issue of church attendance. After a while, the pastor took the tongs from the rack next to the fireplace and pulled a single coal from the fire. He placed the glowing ember on the hearth. As the two watched in silence, the coal quickly ceased burning and turned an ashen gray, while the other coals in the fire continued to burn brightly.

The pastor's silent message was not lost on the parishioner. After a long pause, he turned to the pastor and said "I'll be back at services next Sunday."

One of the songs that we sing frequently has these words:

We are many parts, we are all one body; And the gifts we have we are given to share. May the Spirit of Love make us one indeed; one the love that we share, one our hope in despair, One the cross that we bear.

Then there is the song Draw Us in the Spirit's Tether which reminds us:

That by caring, helping, giving, we may be disciples true.

As the Catholic Church embarks on the mission of teaching the Christian faith, the new Directory for Catechesis (2020) lays the how-to guidelines for catechesis and presents universal norms to guide

pastors and catechists in the work of evangelization. The Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization presents the Directory to guide the proclamation of the Gospel by the Christian faithful to people of all ages and in all seasons of life. The Directory places catechetical instruction and formation of catechetical teachers clearly within the realm of evangelization. It offers guidelines to assist in the creation of local directories and catechisms and clarifies the importance of catechetical renewal in Christian communities. The Directory affirms the presentation of the Catholic faith articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a sound point of reference for instruction while drawing deeply from Scripture and the writings of recent popes, especially Pope Francis’s Evangelii Gaudium. These guidelines are important for bishops, who are the primary catechists in their local diocese. The Directory will also be indispensable for all those responsible for formal religious instruction, including pastors and parish priests, deacons, lay and religious catechists, and religious education teachers in dioceses, parishes, and schools. The Directory will furthermore aid directors of formation who train the faithful in the forms and means of catechesis, including seminary rectors, directors of formation for the permanent diaconate, and lay ecclesial minster formation program directors.

BLESSED MOTHER STATUE WILL BE AT THE HOME OF

Francis & Nolan Champagne

September 7-14, 2020

There is a wonderful family from my previous assignment of St. Anne’s in Youngsville, Larry and Gladys Lasseigne, who have generously provided me with several of their condos in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for the past 8 years where my dear mother, Dolores, myself, several priests, other family members ( my brother and sister with their families) and Deacon Boutte’ have enjoyed. It is an absolute oasis in the Great Smokey Mountains. There are SO many attractions in the area which includes: Dollywood, Holly Wood Wax Museum, Gatlinburg Sky Lift, Several wineries, Titanic Museum, the Island in Pigeon Forge (huge outdoor mall with stores), Alcatraz Crime Museum, Wonderworks Museum, and many, many more attractions and excursions. Take a family vocation and secure one of these cabins…it will be a real treat for you and your family and friends. It’s about a 12 hour drive. Please consider a vacation next summer, it is well worth it a a get-a-away from the hustle and bustle of daily work. Again this couple has four (4) cabins for rental

Applewood Manor is located less than ½ mile from Dollywood Theme Park and has a beautiful view of the Mountains and you can hear the trains whistle from the cabins porch. Each cabin has a heated pool and a game room (pool table, foos ball machine).

For more information go to Cabinsforyou.com or just google cabin’s name in Pigeon Forge, Tn.

Next year, June 21-28 I will be through the graciousness and generosity of my friends, be staying at Applewood; again, mom’s favorite. If any parishioner wants to rent one of their cabins during this time and join us we can all meet, dine together, have Mass together, tour together (Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg). There are so many attractions and events to partake of: Dollywood, Hollywood Wax Museum, many wineries, Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, House of Horrors, Sky Lift, hiking in the Smokey’s, Wonder Works, Tubing or White Water Rafting, Ober Gatlinburg, Titanic Museum, Anakeesta, Space Needle, Christ in the Smokies (my favorite), Hollywood Star Cars Museum, Alcatraz Museum, Pigeon Forge Gem Mine,
