ST JOSEPH MASS SCHEDULE Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 a.m.
Saturday 4 :00 p.m.
Sunday 8:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.
Purgatory is real, and, I am really glad that it
is. I say this because there are many who don’t believe
in Purgatory, and, there are others who are afraid of it.
The Church’s teaching about Purgatory is an extension
of our belief that God is good; that God loves us; and
that it is God’s desire that every single person he has
ever created be saved. It is true that Hell is real, but, it
is just as true that God doesn’t want any of us to go
there. So, what exactly is Purgatory, and, what is so
good about it?
To understand Purgatory it helps to understand
what we mean by Hell. Hell is to spend eternity
separated from God, to have no relationship with Him.
When we say that someone has committed a mortal
sin, we are saying that person has done something that
has caused them to turn their back towards God. They
no longer face Him. When we commit a venial sin, we
do something that causes us to begin to turn away
from God. We don’t turn completely away, but, we
have begun to break our relationship with Him. When
we say we are sorry, we begin the process of
conversion. This means we begin to turn back toward
God. At the end of our lives, if we are facing God, if
we have turned completely to face Him, we enter into
His embrace. If we are turned away from God, we
spend eternity separated from Him.
What happens if we die, and, we haven’t
turned our back to God, but we also haven’t finished
turning completely around to face Him? What happens
is God, in His mercy and with His desire for us to
spend eternity with Him, gives us the opportunity to
finish our conversion. God allows us to continue to
turn away from our sin and turn back to face Him.
This process of conversion, of turning away from our
sin to face God is what Purgatory is. The good news is
unless we have made the choice to completely turn
away from God through our actions in life, God will
give us the opportunity to finish our conversion. If we
make it to Purgatory we are promised that we will
make it to Heaven. Purgatory is good news because it
reminds us of just how generous God is with His love.
God Bless,
Fr. Jack

poor.”
LECTORS AND EUCHARISTIC
MINISTERS
NEEDED Several weeks ago I asked people to please consider
helping out at Sunday Mass as either a Eucharistic
Minister or a Lector. We are in need of both. This is a
great service to the community. If you are willing to
serve, I ask you to please come to a meeting on
Sunday, November 3 following the 10:30 Mass. The meeting will be held in Saint Mary’s Church. If
you have any questions, please contact Fr. Jack.
C.O.O.L. Faith Nights
Students enjoyed playing flag football and learning
about Modern Day Saints Gianna Molla, Teresa of
Calcutta and Chiara Luce Bandano at our October
gathering. We hope to see even more of our middle
schoolers on November 10 for fun, friendship, and a
sprinkling of faith! We are still in need of adult
volunteers. Please contact Kathy Silvia at 339-832-
4458 if you would like to share your faith with the
students in our Collaborative.
The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sharing the Gospel If you have ever thought that you were better than
somebody else, you are not alone. Even grown-ups
think that way sometimes. The truth is, you really are
not better than anyone else. You sin. You make
mistakes, just like other people do. No matter how big
or how small you think your mistakes are, they still
make God angry. Instead of looking down on other
people, remember your own mistakes. Ask God to
forgive you.
Prayer Dear God, I am so sorry I ever thought I was
better than anybody else. Please forgive me.
Something to Draw Draw a picture of something you did wrong.
Then draw a picture of yourself asking God
to forgive you.
Mission for the Week Ask everyone in your class to make cards for people
in prison. Jesus knows when people are truly sorry for
what they have done wrong. Jesus wants to forgive
prisoners, just like he wants to forgive you.
Faith Formation classes for Grades 1-8 will continue
this week beginning on October 27th. Grade 4
students will be participating at the 10:30am Family
Mass.
Confirmation Prep II – Please continue to work on
the paperwork received at the first class in September
and drop off the completed forms at the Faith
Formation Office or bring them to the next class on
November 17.

FLU PREVENTION
As in previous years, the distribution of the Precious
Blood for the faithful is suspended beginning
November 1st, with the exception of those who must
receive from the cup due to medical reasons. The faith
of the Church teaches that Christ, whole and entire, is
received even under only one species. The exchange
of the Sign of Peace is to be offered without any
physical contact. Parishioners should be reminded that
if they are ill or suspect they are ill with a contagious
illness, they are not bound by the Sunday Mass
obligation. They should remain at home and return to
church when they are well.

Collaborative Corner
Our Plan Writing Team added to our Vision
Statement, which will provide us with our
INSPIRATION for our 3-Year Plan:
“We are a growing, joyful, prayerful, Eucharist-
centered, vibrant Catholic Community of believers
who welcome ALL people in the name of Jesus
Christ. We engage in this faith journey together
through sacraments, life-long faith formation,
charitable works, and stewardship, in order to be
witnesses of God’s love in our daily lives.”
We added this last sentence because it speaks to how
our faith life sustains us in our mission, as Catholics,
to love, in the name of Jesus Christ, all people we
encounter in our day to day activities. Our faith
needs to be active as well as spiritual.
“By this all men will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.”

SAINT VINCENT de PAUL AT ST. MARY Would you like to have a closer relationship with
God? God has given us two “great Commandments”-

Saint Vincent DePaul Mission is to show our love for
God by helping others in this Parish. In the
Archdiocese of Boston, we have over 160 conferences
with the same goal: to increase our spirituality and
become closer to God by serving those in need in our
local community. If you are interested, please contact
Father Jack.
