Well, so what? I can't understand how you want to give up that apostolic work — unless your motive is hidden pride: you think yourself perfect — just because God's fire that attracted you and so often gives the light and warmth that arouse your enthusiasm, should also at times produce the smoke due to the weakness of the in-strument. There is work in plenty. The instruments cannot be left to grow rusty. There are also norms to avoid the mildew and the rust. Just put them into practice. Don't worry over the financial difficulties which threat-en your apostolic undertaking. Have greater confidence in God, do all that your human means permit— and you'll see how soon money ceases to be a difficulty Don't let the lack of instruments stop your work: begin by making the best of what you have. As time passes, the function will create the organ. Some, who had seemed useless, turn out to be useful. The rest have to undergo a surgical operation, a painful one perhaps — there were no better 'surgeons' than the saints! — and so the work goes on. A keen and living faith. Like Peter's. When you have it — our Lord has said so — you will move the moun-tains, the humanly insuperable obstacles that rise up against your apostolic undertakings. An upright heart and good will. With these, and with your mind intent on carrying out what God wants, you will see your dreams of Love come true and your hunger for souls satisfied.

The New Testament speaks of judgment primarily in its aspect of the final encounter with Christ in his second coming, but also repeatedly affirms that each will be rewarded immediately after death in ac-cordance with his works and faith. The parable of the poor man Laz-arus and the words of Christ on the cross to the good thief, as well as other New Testament texts speak of a final destiny of the soul—a destiny which can be different for some and for others. 1022 Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heav-en—through a purification or immediately, —or immediate and ev-erlasting damnation. At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love.

Bien. ¿Y qué? —No entiendo cómo te puedes retraer de esa labor de almas —si no es por oculta soberbia: te crees perfecto—, porque el fuego de Dios que te atrajo, además de la luz y del calor que te entusiasman, dé a veces el humo de la flaqueza de los instrumentos. Trabajo... hay. —Los instrumentos no pueden estar mohosos. —Normas hay también para evitar el moho y la herrumbre. —Basta ponerlas en práctica. No te desvele el conflicto económico que se avecina a tu empresa de apostolado. —Aumenta la confianza en Dios, haz humanamente lo que puedas, y ¡verás qué pronto el dinero deja de ser conflicto! No dejes de hacer las cosas por falta de instrumentos: se comienza como se puede. —Después, la función crea el órgano. Algunos, que no valían, resultan aptos. Con los demás se hace una operación quirúrgica, aunque duela —¡buenos "operadores" fueron los santos!—, y se sigue adelante. Fe viva y penetrante. Como la fe de Pedro. —Cuando la tengas —lo ha dicho El— apartarás los montes, los obs-táculos, humanamente insuperables, que se opongan a tus empresas de apóstol. Rectitud de corazón y buena voluntad: con estos dos ele-mentos y la mirada puesta en cumplir lo que Dios quie-re, verás hechos realidad tus ensueños de Amor y sacia-das tus hambres de almas.
